Network Engineer

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Digital Services team as a Network Engineer on a full-time basis (37 hours per week).

About the Role

As a Network Engineer, you will play a vital role in maintaining and enhancing the Council's network infrastructure, ensuring the delivery of secure, resilient, and high-performing connectivity services across the organisation.

You will be the subject matter expert responsible for the design, implementation, support, and continuous improvement of the Council's voice, data, video, and wireless networking environments. Working as part of a dynamic and forward-thinking team, you will manage and support Local Area Networks (LANs) and Wide Area Networks (WANs), troubleshoot complex technical issues, optimise network performance, and contribute to the successful delivery of infrastructure projects and service improvements.

This is a varied and rewarding role that offers the opportunity to work with a broad range of technologies while making a real difference to the delivery of essential public services. About you

We are seeking an experienced, motivated, and customer-focused network professional with a passion for delivering secure and reliable network services.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Proven experience in network engineering, including the design, implementation, management, and support of LAN and WAN environments.
  • Experience diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving network-related incidents, as well as carrying out routine maintenance and proactive monitoring.
  • Strong technical knowledge of networking technologies and protocols, including routing, switching, wireless networking, and network security principles.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage and prioritise competing demands effectively.
  • The ability to communicate confidently and effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, delivering a high standard of customer service.
  • A proactive, flexible, and collaborative approach to work, with a commitment to continuous improvement and professional development.

  • The role requires regular travel between Council offices and partner sites; therefore, candidates must be able to meet the travel requirements of the post.
