PACKAGING DEPARTMENT MANAGER

Job Summary

The Packaging Department Manager is responsible for overseeing and optimizing all packaging operations to ensure efficient, consistent, and high-quality product output. This role provides leadership to the packaging team and requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, proactive problem-solving, and a commitment to safety, quality, productivity, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, and supervise packaging leads and team members to ensure efficient daily operations and adherence to performance expectations.
  • Oversee packaging line setup, operation, and workflow to ensure timely and accurate completion of production orders.
  • Verify that all labeling, packaging, and finished goods meet customer specifications and purchase order requirements.
  • Coordinate with Production, Quality Assurance, and other departments to align packaging schedules, priorities, and production needs.
  • Train, coach, and develop packaging employees on equipment operation, safety procedures, quality standards, and company expectations.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) to improve efficiency, consistency, and accuracy.
  • Monitor packaging material inventory levels and coordinate ordering to prevent shortages or production delays.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve packaging issues to minimize downtime and maintain productivity.
  • Manage staffing schedules, shift coverage, attendance, and departmental personnel needs.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations, company policies, and OSHA standards.
  • Support continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives to reduce waste, improve efficiency, and increase productivity.
  • Oversee the completion and disposition of work orders and ensure accurate production documentation.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.
  • Team members are expected to perform duties and responsibilities as assigned by their supervisor or management, as demands require.

  • Knowledge of packaging equipment, processes, and workflow optimization.
  • Proven ability to identify and resolve production issues efficiently.

  • Ability to read and interpret work orders, labeling requirements, and customer specifications.
  • Strong commitment to safety, quality, productivity, and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment, including exposure to heat and noise.

Schedule

Monday–Friday | 7:00 AM–3:30 PM

Pay

Starting Rate: $28.00 per hour

Starting pay may vary based on qualifications, skills, and relevant experience.
