Part-Time Fitness & Athletics Operations Coordinator
Job description
The Fitness & Athletics Operations Coordinator provides day-to-day operational oversight of the Bunker Hill Community College Fitness Center and supports the Athletics Department through effective management of student employees and facility operations. The position is responsible for recruiting, hiring, training, supervising, and scheduling Federal Work-Study student employees to ensure appropriate staffing and coverage of open gym sessions and other assigned athletics activities.
The Coordinator works closely with the Assistant Director of Athletics and Athletics staff to support open gym, intramural, and game-day operations. The position requires a highly organized, detail-oriented professional with experience managing a fitness center, supervising student employees, coordinating schedules, and maintaining a safe, welcoming, and well-organized facility.
Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day operational oversight and supervision of the Fitness Center.
- Recruit, interview, hire, onboard, train, and supervise Federal Work-Study student employees.
- Develop and maintain student employee work schedules to ensure appropriate coverage of Fitness Center, game day coverage and open gym operating hours.
- Monitor student employee attendance, performance, and adherence to established procedures and expectations.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for student workers regarding schedules, responsibilities, facility procedures, and operational concerns.
- Coordinate with the Assistant Director of Athletics regarding open gym staffing and scheduling; the Assistant Director of Athletics maintains primary responsibility for open gym and intramural programming.
- Assist the Athletics Department with intramural activities, including student-worker staffing, facility preparation, equipment, and operational support.
- Assist with game-day operations, including facility preparation, staffing, equipment, event setup, and other operational needs as assigned.
- Monitor the Fitness Center to ensure equipment, spaces, and operating procedures are maintained appropriately.
- Identify and report equipment maintenance, repair, replacement, and supply needs.
- Maintain accurate records related to student employee schedules, staffing, facility operations, and equipment needs.
- Promote a safe, clean, inclusive, and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, and other Fitness Center users.
- Communicate effectively with Athletics staff, student-athletes, student employees, campus departments, and members of the College community.
- Assist with special events and other Athletics Department operational needs as assigned.
Requirements
- Associate degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Professional experience managing or supervising the operations of a fitness center, recreation facility, athletic facility, or comparable environment.
- Experience hiring, training, supervising, and scheduling student employees or part-time staff.
- Experience working with Federal Work-Study or similar student employment programs preferred.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to develop and manage employee schedules and adjust staffing to meet operational needs.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer-service skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with Athletics Department staff.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, based on Fitness Center, open gym, and athletic event schedules.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain a professional, safe, and welcoming facility environment.
Additional Information:
Position: Part-Time Non-Benefited position Hourly Rate: $36.55 per hour Schedule: Approximately 18.5 hours per week; schedule varies and may include daytime, evening, and weekend hours based on Fitness Center and Athletics Department operational needs.
