Job description

Patient Education Specialist- RN or APP

Mytonomy, an Elsevier company, is a leader in enterprise cloud solutions for modern patient engagement and education. Mytonomy Cloud for Healthcare creates efficiencies for nurses and doctors by streaming broadcast-quality microlearning video education and delivering integrated communications to patients, improving outcomes, reducing the cost of care, and enhancing care delivery. We aim to help all people lead healthier, happier, longer lives.

This Registered Nurse (RN) or Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will work closely with the Chief Medical Officer to provide clinical expertise supporting the creation, review, and maintenance of Mytonomy's clinical library content, including video education and written patient instructions. This clinician will also support the broader Mytonomy/Elsevier team on clinical strategy and product development — including our AI-powered clinical content surveillance and patient-facing AI tools — and will help explain the need for certain clinical topic coverage or strategize on how to introduce them into the clinical care setting. Experience with EHR platforms (e.g., Epic and/or Cerner) is required.

This is a full-time role reporting to the Chief Medical Officer.

Responsibilities

The following is not all-inclusive but delineates the main areas of focus for this role:

  • Content creation: Help create engaging microlearning content for video-based patient education and possibly written instructions, including market research, topic identification, outline development, scripting, and reviewing finished videos and written instructions to ensure a high-quality product.
  • Clinical guideline review: Review current clinical guidelines related to content topics and ensure Mytonomy's medical content reflects the latest evidence-based standards.
  • Content accuracy: Review Mytonomy's medical content for accuracy, ease of understanding, clinical relevance, and other aspects as needed, including supporting AI-assisted content surveillance and validation efforts (e.g., flagging outdated materials and performing human-in-the-loop review of AI-generated or AI-recommended content).
  • SME collaboration: Recruit, onboard, and collaborate with clinical Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) across the country to elicit timely feedback and produce a high-quality product.
  • Content library maintenance: Perform a medical review of the existing content library in accordance with established refresh/review protocols to maintain ongoing clinical accuracy.
  • Project management: Manage clinical content projects and initiatives from concept through completion, coordinating across SMEs, the content team, and product/engineering stakeholders, and keeping projects on schedule.
  • Clinical team leadership: Provide clinical guidance and mentorship to support the broader clinical content team, drawing on prior leadership or supervisory experience where applicable.
  • Optional: If located in the Washington DC/Baltimore area and interested, may occasionally appear on camera as needed for content creation.

Requirements

  • Licensure & certification: Active, unrestricted RN or APP (NP/PA) license, and board-certified in the relevant specialty.
  • Active clinical practice: Currently engaged in clinical practice; current, hands-on clinical experience is a must for this role.
  • Experience: At least 5 years of clinical practice experience in the United States, with experience in both inpatient and outpatient/ambulatory care settings.
  • Leadership: Prior clinical leadership experience (e.g., charge nurse, clinical supervisor, unit or program lead) is preferred.
  • AI experience: Demonstrated experience with or strong interest in AI-powered clinical or healthcare tools — for example, using, evaluating, or helping validate AI-driven clinical decision support, documentation, or patient engagement tools.
  • EHR experience: Strong familiarity with Epic and/or Cerner as a clinician — assigning patient education and using the EHR in daily clinical workflow.
  • Project management: Demonstrated project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple content projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Attention to detail: Highly detail-oriented, with strong quality-control instincts when reviewing clinical content.
  • Team orientation: A collaborative team player with the ability to work effectively across a cross-functional organization.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a focus on translating complex clinical information into content that is accessible and easy to understand.
  • Education: RN or APP degree from an accredited institution.
  • Work style: Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment, internally driven, motivated to do great work, and mission-oriented.
  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. Mytonomy does not provide sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B, OPT, or TN status) for this position.
  • We do not offer relocation assistance.

Location

This is a hybrid role. It can be based out of our Bethesda, MD office or performed remotely, with some in-person requirements.
