Overview

About YouAs the Payroll Manager, you support the Accounting organization by overseeing day-to-day payroll operations for a large, multi-state workforce. This role plays an important part in ensuring payroll is processed accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with all regulatory requirements, while also supporting process improvements as the business grows.

You support and guide a team responsible for payroll execution, with a focus on day-to-day accuracy, timely processing, reporting, compliance, and team support. You serve as a key resource for payroll questions, issue resolution, and cross-functional coordination across the organization.

Your Day in the Life

  • Oversee day-to-day payroll operations for a multi-state workforce, ensuring accurate and timely processing of weekly and bi-weekly payroll
  • Support and guide payroll team members, providing direction, prioritization, and development
  • Ensure accurate processing of employee data changes, including new hires, transfers, promotions, and terminations
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations, as well as internal controls and audit requirements
  • Review payroll reconciliations, audits, and validation processes to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Partner with Accounting to ensure accurate and timely payroll-related journal entries and reporting
  • Support 401(k) compliance and auditing processes
  • Ensure payroll systems are maintained and updated to reflect current employee data, including wages, benefits, and PTO
  • Prepare and maintain payroll reporting, including management reports, bonus files, and merit process support
  • Serve as a resource for payroll questions and issue resolution from employees, managers, and internal teams, escalating complex matters as appropriate
  • Partner with HR, HRIS, and other departments to ensure data accuracy and alignment across systems
  • Support and help implement process improvements, system enhancements, and efficiencies within payroll operations
  • Support payroll-related projects and initiatives, helping ensure changes are implemented accurately and consistently
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned

What You Bring to the Team

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 4–5+ years of payroll experience, including experience supporting teams, processes, or payroll operations
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation preferred
  • Strong knowledge of multi-state payroll processes and federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations
  • Experience working in high-volume, multi-unit, retail, restaurant, or consumer-facing environments preferred
  • Experience with Workday Payroll, ADP, or similar payroll systems preferred
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve system or process issues
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to partner effectively across departments
  • Proven ability to support, coach, and develop team members
  • Experience supporting projects or process improvements preferred
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive information
  • This is a hybrid role with 3 days per week in our Support Office in Broomfield, Colorado
