Job description

About Us

At Kooth, our mission is to create welcoming, accessible spaces for personalized digital mental health care that empowers young people to thrive. Grounded in an early-intervention model, we help youth aged 13–25 build resilience, access timely support, and lead fulfilling lives. We are more than a digital service — we are a movement for inclusive, evidence-informed mental health care.

Our culture is rooted in our values: Alongside You, Flexible, Compassionate, Committed, and Safe. These guide everything we do - how we show up for young people, how we collaborate as a team, and how we build solutions that meet communities where they are. With Kooth, you’ll be part of something bigger than yourself: meaningful work with measurable impact.

We bring this mission to life through Soluna, California’s first-in-the-nation digital behavioral health service for 13–25-year-olds. Soluna removes barriers to care by providing nearly immediate access to 1:1 coaching, Care Navigation, and self-guided tools helping young people find real support, build resilience, and discover hope when they need it most. Together with state and local partners, we’re transforming access to mental health support for youth. Learn more at .

What We’re Looking For:

The People Operations Generalist supports a positive, consistent employee experience by keeping day-to-day People Operations running smoothly. This role partners closely with the People and Talent teams to coordinate onboarding, administer benefits and leave, maintain accurate employee records, and support offboarding.

Success in this role requires strong organization, attention to detail, and sound judgment, alongside an approachable, responsive communication style. The ideal candidate takes ownership, handles sensitive information with discretion, and identifies practical ways to improve processes and support colleagues across Kooth.

How You’ll Make an Impact:

Create a welcoming onboarding experience

  • Partner with the Talent team to coordinate a smooth transition from offer acceptance through onboarding, ensuring accurate information and timely communication.
  • Coordinate pre-employment requirements, including background checks, employment eligibility verification, and required documentation, in line with established processes.
  • Facilitate new hire orientation and work with managers and key stakeholders to tailor onboarding to each colleague’s role and needs.
  • Assign and track onboarding and other required training through our HRIS (Rippling) and LMS (Litmos) platforms, following up to ensure completion by established deadlines.

Help employees navigate benefits and leave

  • Administer employee benefits, including enrollments, qualifying life event changes, records, and open enrollment activities.
  • Work with benefits carriers, providers, and the People team to resolve questions and issues, providing clear, timely support to colleagues.
  • Monitor benefits information in the HRIS, troubleshoot discrepancies, and coordinate updates to maintain accurate records.
  • Coordinate leave administration, ensuring requests, documentation, and HRIS updates are processed accurately and on time.
  • Support payroll-related inquiries and employee changes, partnering with the appropriate teams to resolve issues.

Keep People Operations accurate and dependable

  • Maintain complete, accurate employee records in the HRIS and designated document systems, protecting confidential information.
  • Process employee changes and keep trackers, documentation, and workflows up to date.
  • Coordinate offboarding activities, including exit interviews, employee communications, and records updates; support termination meetings alongside the appropriate People team member.
  • Support responses to unemployment claims and preparation for hearings, in partnership with the People team.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify administrative processes, improve data quality, and strengthen the employee experience.

Support consistent policies and compliant practices

  • Help employees and managers understand and apply Kooth’s policies, benefits, and People processes.
  • Support compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment requirements, including wage and hour rules, employment eligibility documentation, and required labor law notices.
  • Recognize sensitive or complex employee matters and escalate them promptly to the appropriate People team member.
  • Stay current on relevant HR practices and employment requirements, sharing updates and recommendations with the team.
  • Contribute to People projects, training initiatives, and other priorities as business needs evolve.

Requirements

What You’ll Bring:

  • At least 1–3 years of experience in an HR support or generalist role, with exposure to onboarding, employee records, benefits, and day-to-day HR administration.
  • Hands-on experience administering employee benefits and supporting employees with benefits questions.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws, including equal employment opportunity requirements; experience supporting employees across multiple states is a plus.
  • Experience using an HRIS to maintain employee data, process changes, and support onboarding and benefits workflows. Experience with Rippling or a similar platform is a plus.
  • Comfort using Microsoft Office and Google Workspace, particularly spreadsheets, documents, and shared files.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain processes clearly and respond with care.
  • Excellent organization and attention to detail, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Sound judgment and discretion when handling confidential information, along with the ability to recognize when an issue needs additional guidance.
  • A collaborative, service-minded approach and a willingness to take ownership, solve problems, and continue developing your HR knowledge.

Founded in 2001, Kooth plc embarked on a mission to revolutionize mental health care by leveraging the power of the internet. The vision was clear: to create a space where individuals could access mental health support anonymously, without the traditional barriers of referrals, waiting lists, or thresholds. This pioneering approach aimed to particularly reach those who might otherwise avoid seeking help due to perceived stigma. Over the next two decades, Kooth meticulously built its platform, focusing on providing a safe, credible, and accredited online service. Their commitment to accessibility, anonymity, choice, and community became the cornerstones of their service, empowering users to take control of their mental wellbeing journey. Kooth's journey has been one of steady growth and increasing impact. They established themselves as a trusted partner for the NHS and local authorities across the United Kingdom, becoming the UK's largest provider of digital mental health solutions for children, young people, and adults. The company's services, Kooth for young people and Qwell for adults, offer a range of therapeutic tools and interventions, from self-help resources and peer-to-peer support to professional counselling. Recognizing the global need for accessible mental health care, Kooth expanded its operations to the United States. A significant milestone in this international expansion was securing a transformational contract with the California Department of Health Care Services to provide digital mental health care to millions of young people. This, along with other contract wins and a successful IPO on the London Stock Exchange in 2020, has solidified Kooth's position as a leader in the digital mental health space, poised to continue its mission of making effective mental health support available to everyone, globally.
