Physician-Emergency Department Fee Basis

Note: The utilization of Fee Basis appointments is centered on the service needs rather than a specified tour of duty. The Veterans Health Care System of the Ozarks is seeking a Fee Basis Physician in the Emergency Department. The candidate will be responsible for conducting comprehensive patient histories, examinations, diagnoses, and treatments of medical condition.

This is an open continuous announcement that will remain open until filled. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis. Eligible applicants will be referred each week for consideration until a selection is made. Fee Basis Emergency Department (ED) must be qualified to diagnose, treat, stabilize, and manage patients according to standard, usual, and acceptable methods, and techniques. Duties to be performed include, but are not limited to: 1) Perform assessments/examinations on encounters with all presenting patients 2) Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic tests necessary to complete the ED evaluation 3) Provide attending physician oversight to residents, mid-level providers, and students 4) Stabilize all critically ill or injured patients 5) Admit patients to the hospital or discharge them from the ED with appropriate follow-up 6) Discuss treatment plans with patient and/or family/caregiver 7) Perform medication reconciliation with all discharged patients 8) Participate in Quality Assurance, chart reviews, and support applicable ED performance measures 9) Coordinate patient care with consultants as deemed appropriate 10) ED physician will support the safety, occupational health and fire protection programs by the application of approved standards, regulations, practices and work methods Pay: Based on approved pay rates per task or service. Fee basis annual salary limitation is $200,000 in a calendar year. Rates will be determined based on Medicare fee schedule. Rates can range from $2,400.00 per procedure to $3,600.00 per procedure. Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting Work Schedule: There is no set work schedule. Services are rendered as needed and agreed with the facility.

U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959. Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
