Job description

Join Tech @ Ro to build the future of healthcare, from the ground up!

At Ro, we believe that when people achieve their health goals, they can achieve their life goals. The highest-leverage way to move society forward is to give people their health, and the current healthcare system isn’t built to do that. It was built to bill, not to serve patients.

We’re building a new system. One where the patient is in control. One designed from scratch for the digital age.

At Ro, technology isn’t just a function… It's core to how we deliver care. We’ve built a vertically integrated healthcare platform that connects telehealth, diagnostics, pharmacy, and logistics into a seamless, end-to-end experience for millions of patients.

…and we’re just getting started.

As part of Tech @ Ro, you’ll work on systems that operate at scale, with an opportunity to:

  • Solve complex, high-concurrency problems across a full-stack platform
  • Build and ship quickly with tight feedback loops and real-world impact
  • Own systems end-to-end, from architecture to production performance
  • Work alongside experienced operators, technical leaders, and clinicians
  • Help define how modern healthcare should be delivered

We’re a performance-driven team with a strong sense of ownership and urgency. We move fast, learn quickly, and hold a high bar for what we build, and do so with a big heart — because patients depend on it.

If you’re motivated by impact, scale, and the chance to help lead the patient revolution, come build with us.

As a Principal Product Designer, you’ll be a senior individual contributor and member of Product Design leadership responsible for raising the quality, creativity, and craft of Ro’s patient experience. You’ll lead through the work, setting a high bar for visual and interaction design, tackling ambiguous problems across the patient journey, and helping the designers around you produce their best work.

Your primary focus will be evolving Ro’s Design System into a foundation for exceptional product experiences, including how we enable AI-assisted design and development. You’ll partner closely with various partners by bringing strong creative direction, storytelling, and experimentation to the experiences that introduce people to Ro.

You’ll report to the VP of Product Design and work closely with Design, Product, Engineering, Growth, and Marketing to identify opportunities and shape what great experiences at Ro can become and propagate those improvements through the Design System.

What You’ll Do:

  • Raise the design quality across Ro: Lead through direct contribution, bringing exceptional visual craft, creative direction, and product thinking to some of our highest-impact patient experiences.
  • Lead the evolution of Ro’s Design System: Establish its vision and roadmap, evolve its visual language, and partner with Design Engineering to increase adoption and impact.
  • Shape how our Design Systems enable AI-assisted product development: Partner across Design and Engineering to ensure tools like Claude and Figma Make can leverage Ro’s systems, patterns, and standards to produce higher-quality, on-system work at greater velocity.
  • Bring creative direction to Vertical Growth: Partner with designers, Product, Growth, Marketing, and Engineering to develop compelling concepts and experiences that introduce prospective patients to Ro, communicate our value, and improve conversion.
  • Turn creative exploration into org-wide leverage: Identify new patterns and approaches through hands-on product work, then codify the strongest ideas into reusable systems that can improve across Ro.
  • Lead our hardest design problems from ambiguity through execution: Identify opportunities proactively, establish a point of view, create and iterate on concepts, and bring the organization along from early exploration through polished implementation
  • Elevate the broader Product Design org: Mentor and challenge Senior and Staff designers, provide high-quality critique and craft leadership, and help expand the team’s capabilities in visual design, storytelling, concept development, and systems thinking.
  • Partner with Product Design leadership on the future of the patient experience: Help define where Ro should push creatively, identify opportunities beyond the immediate roadmap, and establish a cohesive standard for how Ro’s products should look, feel, and behave.

What You’ll Bring to the Team:

  • Exceptional visual and interaction craft by sharing a portfolio demonstrating sophisticated use of typography, composition, hierarchy, and storytelling alongside strong product-design fundamentals.
  • 10 years of experience designing and shipping high-impact digital products across web and mobile.
  • The ability to operate as both a systems thinker and hands-on maker by defining scalable design languages and patterns while personally demonstrating what exceptional execution looks like.
  • Experience building, evolving, or driving adoption of design systems at scale with a strong point of view on how systems can increase both product quality and development velocity.
  • Strong conceptual thinking and creative-direction skills that allow you to generate compelling ideas, establish a creative point of view, communicate the thinking behind it, and guide others toward a high-quality result.
  • Experience designing consumer-facing experiences where brand, storytelling, growth, and conversion matter with an understanding of how creative quality and rigorous experimentation work together.
  • Demonstrated Principal-level leadership and influence where you proactively identify ambiguous, high-impact opportunities, align senior cross-functional partners around a direction, and raise the capabilities of experienced designers through your work, critique, and mentorship.

We welcome qualified candidates of all races, creeds, genders, and sexuality to apply. The target base salary for this position ranges from $242,300 - $285,000, in addition to a competitive equity and benefits package (as applicable). When determining compensation, we analyze and carefully consider several factors, including location, job-related knowledge, skills and experience. These considerations may cause your compensation to vary.

Ro is consistently recognized as a top workplace in Health Care, in New York, and for Women and Parents—earning more than 20 honors from Fortune, Great Place to Work, and PEOPLE since 2021. In 2025 alone, we ranked top 5 among medium workplaces in Health Care and New York, and top 50 nationwide.

For too long, patients have been asked to blindly trust the healthcare system. No more. At Ro, we want to bring transparency to healthcare at every step of the patient journey, from the cost of their treatment to where their medication is sourced. Ro provides information to help patients make informed, important decisions about their healthcare and their lives, and to put patients back in control of their health. Patients deserve care with no surprises They deserve to see every price before they pay. They deserve to see the risks and benefits of every treatment option. They deserve to know where their drugs are sourced. They deserve to know everything we know. That is Ro's promise. Accurate and unbiased health information for our patients VIPER is an internal process created by Ro that is designed to understand how law, medicine, and advertising intersect. The purpose of VIPER is to facilitate patient safety and trust in Ro by ensuring that the information we present to our patients and the public is truthful, non-misleading, and includes all of the information that we believe is important for a patient's treatment plan. Patients deserve to see under the hood Technology is essential to Ro's ability to provide access to affordable high-quality care. Patients deserve to know how Ro's technology works inside and out. Helping patients in minutes from diagnosis to delivery The future of healthcare is one in which providers are not replaced but empowered by technology, unburdened from administrative paperwork, and liberated to practice medicine in concert with their patients where and when they need it most. Ro is striving to make this a reality every single day. Making it easy to cancel treatment At Ro, we always put patients first. We send an email before every single shipment to make sure the patient still wants or needs their treatment (not after it's been shipped). And we built an amazing cancel flow. That's right, Ro has the easiest way to delay or cancel a shipment in healthcare.
