Summary
The Quality & Safety Technician supports the Quality and Safety team in maintaining Leeco Steel's Quality Management System and safety programs. This role helps ensure customer specifications and quality requirements are met while supporting compliance with applicable regulations, company policies, and internal safety standards. The Quality & Safety Technician partners with cross-functional teams to promote continuous improvement, maintain documentation and audits, support training initiatives and foster a safe, quality-focused work environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Interact with sales, warehouse, and inventory personnel regarding quality issues.
- Assist with internal safety or quality audits.
- Perform Quality Control on the interpretation, inspection, and verification of cut parts at the assigned warehouse location(s).
- Analyze and develop quality or safety procedures and facilitate the training of these procedures.
- Complete incident and accident reports in safety management system. Complete and conduct tracking and other required information.
- Coordinate vendor(s) for safety supplies.
- Maintain training schedule for all contracted training including first aid / CPR / AED, crane operation, forklift, and fire extinguisher.
- Conduct ongoing employee trainings.
- ONI Safety Group – assist with contact, meetings, emails, reporting.
- Update PPE assessments.
- Review with Safety Manager any potential changes to all written policies and coordinate with the Quality Team for document control to verify proper header and form numbers.
- Conduct risk assessments, targeted job safety analysis, SEMs audits.
- Create and maintain lock out – tag out procedures.
- Assist in the execution and follow through of Corrective Action Reports.
- Review and resolve customer complaints regarding products and services.
- Communicate and troubleshoot product quality issues to Quality Leadership and suggest modifications to procedures and/or methods where applicable.
- Conduct and/or coordinate internal and external audits.
- Receive and process Out of Tolerance Report (OTR) information received from warehouse.
- Assist with customer and supplier visits when necessary.
- Maintain calibration on all warehouse measuring tools.
- Assist in overseeing adherence to procedures and work instructions.
- Assist in overseeing procedure adherence in the cutting of steel plate.
- Assist in supplying customer questionnaires, surveys and other regulatory requirements.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Degree in safety-related field or equivalent experience preferred.
- Math skills to take precise measurements and make calculations.
- Ability to interpret part drawings/blueprints.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate them when appropriate.
- High-level of visual awareness.
- Excellent organization skills and attention to details.
- Experience collecting data and drafting reports preferred.
- Ability to work alone with minimal supervision.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong abilities to use and understand measuring tools such as tape measures, calipers, rulers and micrometers.
- Must be computer literate and proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
- Good knowledge of quality and safety standards (ISO, ASTM, OSHA, etc.)
- Willing to travel to other Leeco Steel sites as needed.
- Ability to stand for long periods.
