The Safety Coordinator is responsible for leading and overseeing jobsite safety on our commercial construction projects, promoting a proactive culture of health and safety, ensuring compliance with all OSHA and regulatory requirements, conducting site-specific safety planning and training, and partnering closely with project leadership to identify, mitigate, and prevent hazards while supporting teams in delivering high-quality projects safely and efficiently.

Essential Functions and Abilities Required:
  • Implement the company safety program and the site-specific safety plan on your assigned project.
  • Maintain a visible presence in the field and support the Superintendent, foremen and subcontractors in driving safe work practices.
  • Conduct daily jobsite walks, inspections and hazard assessments, and track corrective actions to timely closure.
  • Review subcontractor activity hazard analyses, pre-task plans and permits, and verify that work is planned and performed safely.
  • Lead or support new-worker orientations, toolbox talks and task-specific safety training.
  • Support incident and near-miss reporting, participate in investigations and root cause analysis, and help implement preventative measures.
  • Maintain accurate safety records, including inspection logs, training records, orientation documentation and incident reports.
  • Provide project data for safety metrics (such as TRIR, DART and EMR inputs) and share trends and recommendations with the Regional Safety Leader.
  • Support environmental compliance on site, including stormwater (SWPPP) inspections, housekeeping, waste management and spill prevention.
  • Serve as an on-site point of contact for owners, inspectors, insurance carriers and regulators, coordinating with the Regional Safety Leader as needed.
  • Partner with the Project Manager and Superintendent to integrate safety into look-ahead schedules, logistics and sequencing.
  • Stop work and escalate immediately when conditions present imminent danger.
  • Work in active construction environments, including walking job sites, climbing stairs and ladders, and standing for extended periods.

Skills

  • Knowledge and familiarity with construction processes, practices, and procedures

Education / Experience Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 2+ years of safety leadership experience within commercial construction
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations and California-specific safety requirements
  • Proven experience managing safety programs across multiple active projects and geographic regions
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to influence at all levels, from field crews to executive leadership
  • Experience with design-build and complex commercial projects preferred
  • Professional certifications such as CSP, CHST, or equivalent strongly preferred
  • OSHA 500 certification
