Job description

Job Summary

The Global Cost Optimization and Repair Manager drives cross-functional cost optimization across Weatherford Product Lines, using repair, redesign, supplier, manufacturing, sourcing, and process improvement as key value-creation levers. With an initial focus on Drilling Services (DS), the role expands proven approaches across other Product Lines to reduce cost, extend asset life, and improve reliability.

The role develops and executes cost-reduction initiatives across design, specifications, materials, sourcing, suppliers, inventory, manufacturing, repair, and asset reuse.

The role requires strong communication, analytical, and influencing skills to connect technical, operational, financial, and commercial stakeholders and deliver safe, scalable, and commercially justified outcomes.

Responsibilities

SAFETY, SECURITY & COMPLIANCE

  • Maintains the highest standards of corporate governance, ensuring activities are conducted ethically and in compliance with Company Security, Compliance and HSE policies, the Management System, relevant laws, regulations, standards, and industry practices.
  • Places Quality, Health & Safety, Security, and protection of the Environment as core values and ensures cost optimization initiatives do not introduce unacceptable technical or operational risk.
  • Ensures repair procedures, redesign solutions, supplier qualifications, and risk-based change approvals comply with applicable engineering, HSE, and quality requirements.

QUALITY

  • Maintains service quality as an immediate priority and actively supports compliance with and improvement of Weatherford’s Management System.
  • Partners with Engineering and Quality to define, validate, approve, document, and sustain repair methods, inspection criteria, qualification requirements, acceptance limits, and controlled technical documentation.
  • Supports NCR resolution, root-cause analysis, lessons learned, and corrective and preventive actions related to repaired, redesigned, or optimized components.

STRATEGY EXECUTION, COST OPTIMIZATION & CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT

  • Contributes to the development of the global cost optimization and repair strategy and supports its translation into prioritized cross-product-line initiatives and implementation plans.
  • Builds and manages a cross-product-line pipeline of cost optimization and repair initiatives, prioritizing opportunities based on financial value, reliability, volume, risk, complexity, scalability, and speed to impact.
  • Identifies high-cost, high-consumption, high-failure, high-scrap, long-lead-time, or supply-constrained components and works with Engineering and other stakeholders to develop repair, redesign, sourcing, reuse, manufacturing, or process-improvement solutions.
  • Leads cross-functional initiatives from concept through deployment, coordinating stakeholders, milestones, dependencies, risks, resources, approvals, and value-realization plans to ensure solutions are technically sound, commercially justified, and operationally executable.
  • Identifies gaps and develops or strengthens the processes, workflows, scorecards, data standards, tools, systems, and operating practices needed to support consistent execution and measurable value delivery.
  • Builds upon and continuously improves the existing DS cost optimization and repair framework, working with Repair Champions and relevant functions to leverage knowledge, develop capabilities, resolve constraints, and adapt proven practices and solutions across other Product Lines.
  • Monitors implementation, adoption, savings, quality, reliability, and supplier performance and drives corrective actions and continuous improvement as business needs evolve.

COMMUNICATION

  • Communicates cost optimization and repair priorities, portfolio status, process or qualification changes, key risks, decisions required, and implementation progress across Product Lines, functions, and management stakeholders.
  • Leads by influence across functions and geographies, building alignment through technical, commercial, and operational credibility.

FINANCIAL

  • Maintains and reports projected and realized savings for cost optimization and repair initiatives using Finance-approved calculation and validation methodology.
  • Works with Finance, Supply Chain, and Operations to link initiatives to sourcing, inventory, working capital, and P&L impact with appropriate financial traceability.

PEOPLE & DEVELOPMENT

  • Maintains a balanced pipeline sufficient to support approved cost-reduction targets and business priorities across Product Lines and functions.
  • Achieves consistent use and sustained effectiveness of required processes, workflows, scorecards, data standards, tools, and operating practices, including correction of processes that are missing, weak, or not consistently followed.
  • Achieves increased adoption and realized value from proven repair and optimization solutions across Product Lines, locations, and qualified suppliers.
  • Achieves timely progression of initiatives through technical review, qualification, supplier readiness, deployment, and sustainment, with effective escalation and resolution of constraints.
  • Reduces cost, scrap, lead time, repeat failures, NCRs, and supply constraints without compromising safety, quality, reliability, or compliance.
  • Demonstrates effective cross-functional execution and increased organizational capability to identify and implement cost optimization opportunities.
  • Builds capability across the cost optimization and repair community through coaching, practical methods, tools, standards, training materials, and knowledge resources.
  • Delivers validated annualized and realized savings from cost optimization and repair initiatives using a transparent, Finance-aligned methodology.
  • Partners with functional leaders to identify competency and technical-support needs and promotes collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Measures of Success

Skills/Education Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Business, or a related technical field.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience across engineering, advanced manufacturing, R&M, supply chain, operations, cost optimization, or technical program leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional cost-reduction initiatives and deliver measurable financial and operational outcomes in a global, matrixed organization.
  • Strong understanding of engineering, manufacturing, repair, sourcing, supplier qualification, quality, and operational performance drivers.
  • Demonstrated experience developing or strengthening business processes, workflows, scorecards, and operating practices in environments where requirements, systems, or ownership were not fully established.
  • Strong analytical and financial acumen to develop business cases, evaluate technical and commercial data, prioritize opportunities, and track value realization.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management, and influencing skills across functions, cultures, Product Lines, and geographies.
  • Ability to work through ambiguity, adapt priorities, and convert evolving business needs into practical actions and sustainable improvements.

  • Experience in repair development, component redesign, design-to-value, supplier development, localization, technology transfer, lifecycle cost optimization, or advanced manufacturing.
  • MBA or master’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations, or a related field.
  • Lean/Six Sigma, PMP, PE, change-management, or equivalent certification.

The story of Weatherford International began in 1941 in the small town of Weatherford, Texas, where Jesse E. Hall Sr. founded the Weatherford Spring Company. What started as a modest operation manufacturing spring brakes for trucks and trailers soon pivoted to meet the growing demands of the oil and gas industry. By 1948, the company had rebranded as the Weatherford Oil Tool Company, establishing a reputation for its cementing and casing equipment. This early commitment to specialized oilfield technology laid the groundwork for a journey of massive global expansion and technological innovation. Throughout the latter half of the 20th century, Weatherford grew from a regional manufacturer into a global powerhouse. A pivotal moment arrived in 1998 with the merger of EVI, Inc., which catalyzed a period of aggressive growth involving over 300 strategic acquisitions. This expansion diversified the company's portfolio, allowing it to offer a comprehensive suite of services ranging from well construction and completion to production and intervention. Today, Weatherford stands as one of the world's largest energy services companies, operating in approximately 75 countries with a workforce of over 17,000 employees. Under the leadership of CEO Girish K. Saligram, the company has embraced a new era of 'Production 4.0,' integrating advanced digitalization, automation, and sustainable practices to drive efficiency and value for the evolving energy landscape.
