Job description

Under the direction of the Operations Manager, the Route Delivery Supervisor provides day-to-day leadership of the Route Delivery Team and supports warehouse operations as needed. This working supervisor is responsible for safe, accurate, and efficient order fulfillment and delivery while assisting with employee development, route planning, inventory issues, safety, and process improvement.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead daily Route Delivery Team activities by assigning work, prioritizing workload, monitoring performance, and ensuring orders and routes are completed accurately and on time.
  • Assist the Operations Manager with interviewing, onboarding, training, coaching, employee development, and performance accountability.
  • Share leadership responsibility with the other department supervisor in the Operations Manager’s absence, providing employee direction, resolving operational issues, and ensuring daily priorities are completed.
  • Coordinate daily route operations, including driver assignments, delivery schedules, additional deliveries, route changes, and exceptions. Review and develop routes to improve efficiency, vehicle utilization, and customer service.
  • Develop and verify truck load plans, customer order counts, and product placement to ensure accurate, safe, and properly sequenced deliveries.
  • Monitor picking, loading, delivery, and inventory accuracy; investigate discrepancies, resolve issues, and provide coaching or training when needed.
  • Work with Warehouse, Customer Service, Sales, Purchasing, and other departments to resolve operational or customer issues and identify opportunities to improve safety, accuracy, productivity, and efficiency.
  • Provide hands-on support as needed, including picking, packing, staging, loading trucks, preparing driver paperwork, invoicing orders, and maintaining clean and organized work areas.
  • Support continuous improvement in on-time deliveries, order and loading accuracy, route efficiency, inventory accuracy, safety, employee performance, and customer satisfaction.
  • Perform other duties assigned based on operational and business needs.

QUALIFICATIONS

The employee must have demonstrated experience and/or education as outlined below in order to satisfactorily perform the essential job duties and responsibilities. Qualifications may include, but are not limited to:

  • High school diploma or equivalent and two or more years of experience in a shipping, warehouse, delivery, or related environment. Additional education or training in math, computer operations, or leadership is preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the position.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, mobile devices, and internal company programs and applications.
  • Proficient math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business procedures, work instructions, training materials, and related documents.
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, sound judgment, and ability to resolve issues effectively.
  • Demonstrated commitment to high ethical standards and professional conduct.
  • Ability to adapt to workplace changes and new duties and responsibilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple priorities and frequent interruptions, and maintain professionalism.
