Safety Manager I (Taylor, TX) - Austin Bridge & Road
Job description
Austin Bridge & Road is currently seeking an experienced Safety Manager for a project in Taylor, Texas. We excel at what we do and are looking for talented professionals that want to excel with us. The Safety Manager I is responsible for managing the site safety program on assigned projects. This role continuously implements and facilitates the required Safety & Health Program principles to ensure a safe and compliant work environment.
Responsibilities
- Implement the Austin Bridge and Road Safety & Health Program, including the EHS management system, and apply program principles effectively.
- Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with clients, management, supervisors, employees, and trade partners.
- Attend preconstruction meetings and review all safety submittals from trade partners.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with project staff, trade partner safety representatives, and key vendors, including suppliers, architects, and other stakeholders.
- Create and maintain accurate safety incident reports and accident investigation documents.
- Provide and participate in staff safety training sessions and development programs for trade partners, aligning training with project scopes and specific work types.
- Represent the company positively and professionally with owners and trade partners.
- Summarize and communicate safety incidents through bulletins, updates, PowerPoint presentations, and site-specific safety plans.
- Manage safety incidents according to Austin Bridge and Road’s severity matrix.
- Conduct monthly safety data analysis to identify project trends tracking first aid cases, near misses, recordable incidents, and lost-time accidents. Log and communicate identified trends to project staff for proactive management.

- Understand and participate in Incident Loss Analysis (ILA) meetings, case management, accident investigations, and the permit process.
- Adhere to Austin Bridge and Road Crane and Hoist safety policies outlined in the Annual Compliance Signoff and participate in Crane and Hoist safety activities as necessary.
- Immediately notify the designated area manager of any OSHA visit or complaint, following the notification hierarchy to ensure all relevant staff are promptly informed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Safety, or an associate’s degree with demonstrated progress toward a bachelor’s degree
- A Certified Safety Professional certificate, such as CSP, ASP, GSP, CHST, OHST, or equivalent credential
- Authorized OSHA 500 trainer
- CPR and First Aid certified
- CMAR and preconstruction experience preferred
- Experience with asphalt laydown operations and asphalt plant operations preferred
- Good organizer, meticulous, and good public speaker at ease moderating large groups
- Bilingual in Spanish highly desirable
Requirements
- 5+ years of managing construction safety and health processes
- OSHA 30 hour with experience in training and excavation trenching confined space entry
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint,)
- Requires working outdoors at times in the rain or snow and during cold, warm, and hot temperatures
- Must be able to work on call as needed
- Valid driver’s license
