Job description

Teche Health, A Federally Qualified Health Center, per Section 330 of the Public Health Service Act, is currently seeking qualified applicants for a Senior Human Resources Generalist in Franklin, Louisiana.

Position Summary

  • The Senior Human Resources Generalist manages core HR services across Teche Health, with primary responsibility for employee benefits and leave administration. This position serves as a trusted resource for employees and supervisors, ensuring that benefits, leave, recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, and daily HR processes are handled accurately, consistently, and with care.
  • The Senior HR Generalist works independently on complex matters, identifies process improvements, and partners with leaders to strengthen employee retention and the overall employee experience. The role requires sound judgment, discretion, strong follow-through, and the ability to balance employee needs with organizational policy and operational requirements.

Essential Responsibilities

Benefits Management

  • Lead the day-to-day administration of health, dental, vision, life, disability, retirement, and other employee benefit programs.
  • Guide employees through enrollment, qualifying life events, coverage changes, and benefit questions.
  • Coordinate annual open enrollment, including employee communications, educational sessions, enrollment tracking, and follow-up.
  • Review benefit elections, payroll deductions, carrier files, invoices, and eligibility records; resolve discrepancies with Payroll, vendors, and employees.
  • Coordinate required benefit notices and documentation, including continuation coverage processes, in partnership with vendors and internal stakeholders.
  • Monitor vendor service and employee concerns, identify recurring issues, and recommend improvements to benefit processes and communications.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential benefit records and assist with audits, reporting, and renewals.

Leave and Accommodation Management

  • Serve as the primary HR contact for requests involving medical, family, personal, military, and other applicable leaves of absence.
  • Manage the leave process from initial notice through return to work, including eligibility review, required documentation, tracking, employee communication, and coordination with supervisors and Payroll.
  • Coordinate requests for workplace accommodations and support the interactive process with appropriate HR leadership involvement.
  • Track leave balances, intermittent leave, benefit continuation, and return-to-work status; identify and address discrepancies promptly.
  • Communicate clearly and compassionately with employees while maintaining consistent application of policy and applicable requirements.
  • Partner with supervisors to plan for employee absences while protecting confidential medical information.
  • Escalate complex, sensitive, or potentially disputed leave and accommodation matters to HR leadership.

Daily HR Operations and Employee Support

  • Respond to employee and supervisor questions about policies, benefits, leave, employment practices, and HR procedures.
  • Maintain accurate employee records and complete timely personnel changes in the HR and payroll systems.
  • Support onboarding, status changes, transfers, and separations, ensuring required steps and documentation are completed.
  • Advise supervisors on routine performance, attendance, and workplace concerns; assist with documentation and consistent application of policy.
  • Support employee relations reviews and investigations as assigned, including gathering information, maintaining records, and recommending next steps.
  • Prepare HR communications, reports, dashboards, and documentation for leadership.
  • Identify gaps in HR processes and develop practical improvements that reduce errors and improve service

Recruitment and Retention

  • Partner with hiring managers to clarify staffing needs, develop job postings, review candidates, coordinate interviews, and move candidates efficiently through the hiring process.
  • Support timely offers, pre-employment requirements, and handoffs to onboarding and, when applicable, Medical Staff Services.
  • Monitor recruiting activity, hiring timelines, turnover trends, and reasons employees leave; recommend actions based on the findings.
  • Work with managers and the Employee Engagement team to strengthen onboarding, recognition, employee feedback, and retention practices.
  • Support stay interviews, exit interviews, and follow-up on themes affecting employee experience.
  • Help supervisors address avoidable turnover through stronger communication, early intervention, and consistent management practices.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • At least five years of progressively responsible HR experience, including substantial hands-on experience with employee benefits and leave administration.
  • Experience supporting recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, and HR operations.
  • Strong knowledge of employment practices and the ability to research and apply changing requirements.
  • Experience using HR information systems and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Ability to handle confidential information, manage competing deadlines, and communicate effectively with employees at all levels.

Preferred

  • Experience in a healthcare, community health center, or other regulated workplace.
  • Experience with Paycom or a comparable HR and payroll system.
  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification.
  • Experience improving HR processes and using workforce data to guide decisions.

Eligibility

Requirements

  • All employees must meet eligibility standards in order to be considered for the position applying for. Internal applicants must be with be with the organization for at least one year, with no disciplinary actions on file. If you have not been with the organization for a year, approval from your direct supervisor will be needed.

Due to CMS Mandate all applicants must be fully vaccinated prior to onboarding with Teche Health with the exception of an approved Medical or Religious Exemption.
