Senior Machine Design Engineer
Job description
You will lead machine-design activities for gas centrifuge isotope separation systems. You will design high-speed rotating equipment, fixtures, tooling, vacuum interfaces, and documentation; conduct tolerance analyses and design reviews; manage configuration data; and work with manufacturing and quality personnel.
Responsibilities
- Lead gas centrifuge isotope separation design activities
- Design components and subassemblies for high-speed rotating equipment
- Progress new designs through testing toward volume production
- Design containment boundary joints for high and ultra-high vacuum systems
- Design fixtures and tooling for fabrication, inspection, testing, and assembly
- Produce requirements documents, calculations, drawings, bills of materials, specifications, inspection plans, assembly instructions, and test plans
- Use SolidWorks 3D CAD and SolidWorks PDM
- Perform tolerance stack-up and error-budget analyses
- Facilitate formal design reviews
- Specify materials conforming to national standards
- Define inspection and acceptance criteria for critical component characteristics
- Work with manufacturing, quality staff, and suppliers on non-conformances and deviations
Requirements
- Active DOE Q Clearance
- BS degree in Mechanical Engineering plus 12 years of relevant experience, or MS degree in Mechanical Engineering plus 10 years of relevant experience
- Machine design experience
- SolidWorks 3D CAD experience
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing needs
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE clearance
- Pass a pre-placement drug test and participate in ongoing random drug testing
