Senior Manager, Affirm Bank Operations Enablement
Job description
At Affirm, we exist for the moments that matter—giving people a clear, predictable way to pay over time, with no hidden fees, no surprises, and no tradeoffs on what matters most.
About The Operations Team
The Operations team delivers seamless customer experiences and enables new product capabilities while ensuring operational excellence. The team owns strategy, planning, technical execution, customer service, fraud operations, process design, quality, training, and program management. We drive efficiency, resolve issues quickly, and scale operations as the business grows. Our goal is to deliver seamless support while maintaining high standards and reducing risk.
About The Role
Affirm is building a de novo bank, and this role will help establish and scale its operating foundation. You will own the Finxact core and digital banking experience platforms, lead deposit and lending operations strategy, and partner with servicing teams to build resilient, well-controlled processes that deliver transparent, reliable financial products.
What You’ll Do
- Own the implementation, configuration, and ongoing administration of Finxact as the Bank’s core system of record, including product structures, rates and fees, transaction and posting rules, account parameters, general-ledger mappings, user entitlements, environments, and controlled production changes.
- Own the operational delivery and ongoing management of Savana and the Bank’s integrated digital account-opening, online and mobile banking experiences. Translate customer and operational needs into requirements; lead user-acceptance testing, release readiness, issue resolution, and continuous platform improvement.
- Lead operational launch readiness, including operating-model design, procedures, roles and responsibilities, staffing and training, end-to-end testing, mock processing days, cutover, go/no-go evidence, hypercare, and the transition to stable business-as-usual operations.
- Direct daily deposit operations, including balancing Federal Reserve activity to the Finxact ledger; reconciling new-account funding; approving outbound ACH and wire files under dual control; managing inclearing, returns, and exceptions; reviewing failed account boarding; monitoring zero-balance account aging; and overseeing dormancy, escheatment, account maintenance, holds, statements, transaction research, error investigations, dispute resolution, regulatory reporting, and fraud-investigation support.
- Direct lending operations by validating underwriting and eligibility results against Bank guidelines; approving or declining funding within delegated authority; creating and approving funding wires with appropriate segregation of duties; validating loan boarding and journal-entry bookings; and reconciling funding, settlement, daily loan activity, and exceptions.
- Oversee loan purchase and sale operations, including seasoning and eligibility validation, loan-tape and documentation quality control, approval and settlement, confirmation of funds received, accurate sold status and sold-date updates, boarding validation, and completion of purchase and sale audits.
- Build and maintain the Bank’s operational control environment in accordance with Bank-approved policies and independent governance. Own documented procedures, maker-checker controls, reconciliations, access reviews, exception aging, quality assurance, records and evidence, root-cause analysis, issue remediation, and audit and examination readiness; partner with Compliance on BSA/AML, OFAC, consumer-protection, privacy, funds-availability, payments, complaint, and other applicable requirements.
- Manage Bank oversight of affiliate-provided services and critical core, digital banking, payments, document, and operations vendors. Maintain Bank decision rights, data ownership, service levels, audit and remediation rights, and escalation paths; monitor performance, capacity, releases, incidents, and control reports; coordinate root-cause reviews; and maintain tested business-continuity, disaster-recovery, transition, and manual-workaround capabilities.
- Lead and develop a high-performing Bank Operations team through clear decision rights, capacity planning, cross-training, performance management, succession planning, and escalation coverage. Establish metrics for processing timeliness and completeness, reconciliations, exceptions, failed boarding, operational losses, customer-impacting incidents, vendor performance, and control effectiveness, and provide clear reporting and recommendations to Bank leadership.
- Partner closely with Product, Engineering, Data, Accounting, Finance, Treasury, Lending, Compliance, Risk, Information Security, Fraud, Customer Care, Internal Audit, and third parties to design scalable workflows, automate controls, resolve systemic issues, and deliver safe, reliable customer experiences.
What We Look For
- 8+ years of relevant experience in banking operations, digital banking, financial technology, or core-platform delivery, including meaningful experience leading teams and operating in a regulated financial institution.
- Hands-on experience implementing, configuring, converting, or administering a core banking platform; experience with Finxact or another modern cloud-native, API-first core is strongly preferred.
- Experience owning digital account-opening and online or mobile banking platforms and coordinating integrations, user-acceptance testing, releases, production support, and vendor-driven change.
- Deep working knowledge of deposit and lending operations, including ACH, wires, checks and in-clearing, account funding, reconciliations, general-ledger impacts, exception management, loan funding and boarding, and loan purchase or sale settlement.
- Demonstrated ability to design and operate effective controls, including segregation of duties, approval authorities, reconciliations, access management, quality assurance, issue management, recordkeeping, and audit or regulatory-examination support.
- Strong understanding of bank regulatory and risk expectations applicable to deposit, lending, payments, third-party, consumer-protection, privacy, business-continuity, and operational-resilience activities.
- Proven success managing critical technology and operations vendors, service levels, incidents, root-cause analysis, remediation commitments, and executive escalations.
- Excellent judgment, analytical problem-solving, and written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate between banking operations, customer experience, product, technology, risk, and executive stakeholders.
- Experience building a de novo bank, launching a new bank or digital-banking program, or completing a core conversion is strongly preferred. A bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience is expected; familiarity with SQL, data pipelines, and business-intelligence tools is a plus.
- Willingness to provide periodic after-hours support for releases, cutovers, material incidents, and business-continuity events.
