YOUR CHALLENGES

Reporting to the Regional Service Manager or Service Operations Manager, the Service Area Manager will lead AB Energy’s service activities in the Midland area. This position combines operational leadership with hands-on field support and will play a key role in developing the local service organization as the installed base and regional workload grow.

During the initial development of the area, approximately 35% of the role will be dedicated to field activities, including preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, emergency response, and participation in the on-call rotation. The remaining time will focus on team leadership, customer management, scheduling, service administration, cost control, technical escalations, and overall service performance.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage daily service operations within the Midland area and ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to required quality standards.
  • Coordinate technicians, tools, vehicles, parts, subcontractors, and specialized resources for scheduled and emergency activities.
  • Develop short- and medium-term service plans based on equipment operating hours, contractual requirements, customer needs, and available capacity.
  • Dedicate approximately 35% of working time to field service during the initial development of the area, including maintenance, troubleshooting, inspections, equipment testing, and emergency response.
  • Provide hands-on technical support during complex interventions, equipment failures, and minor or major overhauls.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation and provide occasional weekend, holiday, after-hours, and overnight support as required.
  • Supervise, coach, and develop Field Service Technicians, including work assignment, training, onboarding, feedback, and performance support.
  • Serve as the primary service contact for customers and provide timely updates regarding schedules, equipment condition, interventions, and outstanding actions.
  • Review and approve service reports, timesheets, overtime, expenses, vacation requests, work orders, and other service documentation.
  • Monitor job costs, labor utilization, overtime, travel, subcontractor costs, parts consumption, budgets, forecasts, and service-area profitability.
  • Monitor service KPIs, including response time, schedule compliance, productivity, utilization, work-order closure, customer satisfaction, and equipment availability.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with AB procedures, customer requirements, job hazard assessments, lockout/tagout practices, and applicable regulations.
  • Collaborate with Parts, Warehouse, Procurement, Technical Support, Service Administration, Service Sales, other Service Area Managers, and international teams.
  • Support other U.S. and Puerto Rico locations as needed, with occasional travel to Canada or Europe for training, meetings, or operational support.
  • Develop the local service organization as the installed base and area workload expand.

WHY WE WOULD CHOOSE YOU

  • You have a technical diploma, associate degree, trade certification, or equivalent experience in mechanical, electrical, power generation, industrial maintenance, or a related field.
  • You have relevant experience maintaining and troubleshooting engines, generator sets, rotating equipment, industrial machinery, or similar systems.
  • You have previous experience leading technicians, coordinating field-service activities, or managing service operations.
  • You bring strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting capabilities and can interpret technical manuals, electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and service procedures.
  • You understand preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, structured troubleshooting, service planning, and emergency response.
  • You demonstrate strong leadership, organization, planning, customer-service, communication, and decision-making skills.
  • You can manage multiple priorities, customer requests, technical escalations, costs, KPIs, and administrative requirements.
  • You are proficient in Microsoft Office and familiar with digital work-order, ERP, or service-management systems. Experience with SAP is preferred.
  • Experience with natural gas or biogas reciprocating engines, generator sets, combined heat and power systems, PLCs, engine controls, fuel systems, electrical generation, or emissions-control equipment is preferred.
  • You hold a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and are legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • You are able to participate in an on-call rotation, travel frequently within the assigned area, stay overnight when required, and occasionally support other locations.
  • You can work safely in office, remote, customer-site, and industrial environments and can perform the physical requirements of the role, including lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds with assistance or lifting devices used for heavier items.
  • NFPA 70E, OSHA, first aid/CPR, or other relevant safety certifications are preferred, or you are willing to complete required training after hire.

WHAT WE OFFER

  • Values-driven and inclusive environment: A workplace built on clear values, transparency, respect, and inclusion, fostering collaboration and open dialogue.
  • Structured onboarding and mentorship: A dedicated induction program with support from experienced professionals to ensure an effective and well-supported integration.
  • Professional development and growth: Clearly defined career paths supported by annual performance reviews, continuous feedback, and training opportunities in an environment that values individual potential and continuous learning.
