Job description

Company Overview

World Emblem International is a global manufacturer of patches, emblems, and decorated products. The business operates on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central as its ERP, supported by custom middleware, ecommerce platforms, CRM/marketing systems, and production applications. As we invest in AI and modern analytics, we are building a centralized Data Lake / Data Warehouse on Microsoft Fabric to provide trusted, well-modeled data across the business.

Role Summary

We are seeking a hands-on Senior Data Engineer to build, scale, and own World Emblem’s new centralized data platform on Microsoft Fabric. Working within the Applications team and in close partnership with the Director of AI, you will be a key technical voice in the architecture and planning of the Data Lake / Data Warehouse project. You will design and build ETL/ELT pipelines from Business Central, custom middleware, ecommerce, and marketing systems, ensuring a solid foundation for AI initiatives and enterprise reporting.

This is a hands-on build role. You will write T-SQL, design tables, views, stored procedures, and construct Fabric pipelines while taking full ownership of running and extending the platform in-house.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Platform Architecture & Build: Participate in architecture planning for the Microsoft Fabric platform (OneLake, Lakehouse/Warehouse, layered data zones, capacity structure, naming, and modeling standards). Partner with an external implementation partner during initial rollout and transition into full in-house ownership.
  • ETL / ELT Development & Integration: Design and maintain pipelines using Microsoft Fabric Data Factory (pipelines & Dataflows Gen2), Azure Data Factory, or SSIS. Extract data from Business Central, custom middleware, BigCommerce, HubSpot, and internal databases. Build incremental/CDC loads, error handling, retries, and idempotent processing.
  • Database Engineering: Build high-standard tables, views, functions, stored procedures, and indexes across SQL Server, Azure SQL, and Fabric Warehouse. Design dimensional models (star schemas, fact/dimension tables, SCDs) and manage query performance, partitioning, and capacity planning.
  • Data Quality & Operations: Implement automated quality checks for completeness, accuracy, and freshness. Reconcile key business metrics (orders, revenue, inventory) between source systems and the data warehouse. Monitor pipeline health, handle alerting, and resolve root-cause data issues.
  • Reporting & AI Enablement: Work with the Reporting Engineer to transition existing Power BI and SSRS reports to query the new platform instead of production databases. Deliver structured, documented datasets to the AI department for RAG systems, agents, and predictive analytics.
  • Governance, Security & CI/CD: Implement RBAC, row/column-level security, and data protection standards. Maintain data dictionaries and lineage documentation. Manage code, database objects, and deployment pipelines via Git and Azure DevOps.

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of professional experience in data engineering and SQL Server database development, including production pipeline ownership.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric (OneLake, Lakehouse/Warehouse, Data Factory pipelines, or Dataflows Gen2) is mandatory.
  • Expert T-SQL

    skills

Advanced database design, views, stored procedures, indexing, and query performance tuning.
  • Strong experience with SQL Server and Azure SQL (Azure SQL Database or Managed Instance).
  • Proven track record building ETL/ELT pipelines with Microsoft tooling (Fabric Data Factory, ADF, or SSIS) including incremental/CDC load strategies.
  • Strong expertise in Data Warehousing & Dimensional Modeling (star schemas, facts/dimensions, SCDs).
  • Experience integrating data from enterprise ERPs via APIs, OData, web services, or database connections.
  • Hands-on experience with Git and Azure DevOps for version control and CI/CD workflows.
  • Excellent technical communication skills with the ability to explain complex data topics to business stakeholders.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (or Dynamics NAV) data models and APIs.
  • Familiarity with HubSpot, BigCommerce, Optimizely, or manufacturing/production data environments.
  • Experience building Power BI semantic models (DAX) and migrating SSRS reports.
  • Relevant Microsoft Certifications: DP-700 (Fabric Data Engineer), DP-600 (Fabric Analytics Engineer), or DP-300.
  • Experience preparing enterprise data pipelines for AI / Machine Learning / RAG use cases.
