Vice President, DevOps / Application Infrastructure Backend Engineer
Job description
We are seeking an experienced DevOps / Application Infrastructure Backend Engineer to join our Structured Debt Client Platform team to support middleware, cloud infrastructure, container platforms, and production application workloads. This role will requires strong hands-on experience supporting business-critical Java applications in AWS and Kubernetes environments. This role is located in Pittsburgh, PA
In this role, you'll have the opportunity to impact our organization in the following ways:- Administer and support middleware and application workloads, including Apache HTTP Server, NGINX, Tomcat, Java/Spring Boot, and Angular applications running on Linux and Windows servers.
- Support AWS infrastructure, including EC2, Application Load Balancers (ALB), Network Load Balancers (NLB), VPCs, subnets, security groups, and EKS networking.
- Build, deploy, and support containerized Java/Spring Boot and Angular applications using Docker and Kubernetes.
- Create and maintain Dockerfiles, container images, and image repositories while applying container security and image-optimization best practices.
- Deploy applications to Kubernetes using Helm and Git-based deployment processes.
- Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI/CD, AWS CodePipeline, or comparable platforms.
- Integrate build tools such as Maven, Ant, and npm into automated pipelines.
- Implement automated build, testing, security-scanning, and deployment processes.
- Provision and manage infrastructure using Terraform and Ansible.
- Develop automation and operational tooling using Bash, Shell scripting, and Python.
- Support Kubernetes environments, preferably AWS EKS, including networking, ingress, load balancing, storage, secrets, and application lifecycle management.
- Monitor application and infrastructure health using platforms such as Datadog, Splunk, and Amazon CloudWatch.
- Troubleshoot production infrastructure, middleware, networking, deployment, and performance issues affecting Java applications.
- Participate in incident response, root-cause analysis, problem management, disaster-recovery exercises, and high-availability planning.
- Provide production support as part of a 24x7 on-call rotation.
- Develop and maintain runbooks, operational procedures, architecture documentation, troubleshooting guides, and knowledge-base articles.
- Collaborate effectively with application development, infrastructure, security, and operations teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related discipline. An equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience will also be considered.
- 5-9 years of work experience in similar skills
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate or Professional certification.
- Enterprise production experience with Amazon EKS.
- Experience deploying Kubernetes applications using Helm and GitOps practices.
- Experience with Kubernetes secrets management and multi-environment deployment strategies.
- Knowledge of container image optimization, vulnerability management, networking, persistent volumes, secrets, and container lifecycle management.
- Experience supporting both Linux and Windows server environments.
- 3-5 years of experience in DevOps, middleware administration, application infrastructure, vulnerability remediation, cloud engineering, or production support .
- Hands-on experience supporting Java/Spring Boot applications in production environments.
- Experience administering Apache HTTP Server, NGINX, Tomcat, or comparable middleware technologies.
- Practical experience with AWS infrastructure and networking services, including EC2, load balancers, VPCs, subnets, and security groups.
- Hands-on experience with Docker and containerized application workloads.
- Hands-on experience with Vulnerability remediation
- Experience supporting Kubernetes environments and troubleshooting Kubernetes components, networking, ingress, load balancing, storage, and deployments.
- Experience designing or maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
- Working knowledge of Git workflows, automated builds, testing, security scanning, and deployment practices.
- Hands-on experience with Terraform and Ansible.
- Strong Bash/Shell and Python scripting skills.
- Experience with monitoring and logging tools such as Datadog, Splunk, or CloudWatch.
- Experience with production incident management, root-cause analysis, disaster recovery, and highly available environments.
- Strong troubleshooting, documentation, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Willingness and ability to participate in a 24x7 on-call production-support rotation.
- AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner certification or equivalent.
