Job description
Key Outputs
• Lead and manage all maintenance activities for the underground mining fleet to achieve equipment availability targets of >85%.
• Ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of the underground fleet through planned maintenance, condition monitoring, and reliability engineering practices.
• Maintain compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) and all site safety standards.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce equipment downtime and maintenance costs.
• Manage maintenance planning, scheduling, and execution to achieve weekly and monthly production requirements.
• Develop and lead a high-performing team of artisans, planners, supervisors, and condition monitor.
• Ensure warranty, component life cycle and rebuild management processes are effectively implemented.
• Build strong relationships with the customer and mine management team to achieve operational objectives.
• Optimize the financial and operational performance of the CVA site through effective management of people, customers, requirements and resources.
• Implementation and maintenance of equipment management processes and associated risk of Barloworld Equipment and our customers.
• Achievement of a team environment that enables maximum productivity and profitability includes management of Human Resource Value chain.
• Effective management of safety, health, environment and quality risks.
• Managing all the planning departments’ outputs.
• Hold and execute the legal appointment in terms of Section 2.6.1 of the MHSA.
Qualification, Experience and Competencies
Minimum Qualifications
• Grade 12.
• Recognized Trade Test (Diesel Mechanic / Earthmoving Equipment Mechanic / Electrician).
• National Diploma or Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
Experience
• Minimum 5-10 years' maintenance experience in mining equipment.
• Management role overseeing underground mining fleets.
• Proven experience managing CAT underground equipment including loaders, trucks, and graders.
• Experience working in a contract maintenance environment.
• Strong maintenance management experience.
Technical Competencies
• Reliability-centered maintenance (RCM).
• Equipment health and condition monitoring.
• Maintenance planning and scheduling.
• Budget and cost management.
• Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA).
• Fleet performance management.
• OEM warranty administration.
• Business development skills and knowledge
• Knowledge of Safety and MHSA requirements.
• Sound business and financial acumen
• Sound Knowledge of safety rules and regulations
• Computer literate (MS office) CRM, SAP will be an advantage
• Understanding of the internal functions of the business
• Mechanical and Electrical reasoning, knowledge of earthmoving equipment and industry
• Customer responsiveness, influence and negotiating skills
• Understanding of OEM warranty processes
