Legal Aid’s Access to Justice Paralegal Fellows positions may be the right opportunity for you. Fellowships begin September 1, 2025, or as soon thereafter as possible. The duration of the fellowships is intended to be for one year with the possible extension for a second yearFull-Time positions are available on Oʻahu (Honolulu, Waianae, or Kaneohe). A Full-Time or Part-Time position is available on Maui and a Part-Time position is available on Kauai.
The Mission and Duties:
The Access to Justice Paralegal Fellows program is a key component of the Legal Aid Society of Hawaii’s efforts to provide legal services to Hawaii’s low-income and disadvantaged individuals and families. Fellows are non-attorney advocates working alongside and under the guidance of Legal Aid attorneys and paralegals.
· Self-Help Center/Access to Justice Rooms: Fellows assist unrepresented individuals navigating the civil justice system at courthouse-based self-help centers and in Legal Aid offices across the state. Fellows work alongside private attorney volunteers at self-help centers, support center intake, provide procedural guidance on common legal issues, and gain hands-on experience in legal services delivery and volunteer coordination.
· Direct Client Services: Fellows, provide brief legal assistance to clients in legal aid offices under the supervision of Legal Aid attorneys, and may even represent clients in administrative hearings.
· Outreach and Education: Fellows participate in outreach and education and assist in the development of self-help tools.

We are looking for individuals who have good people skills, an interest in helping others, good computer skills, an interest in law, and who excel working as part of a team. Experience working with disadvantaged individuals and/or legal experience is helpful but not required. Training is provided. These positions are uniquely suited for individuals exploring a career in law and who are committed to service. While the benefits are modest, the experience is tremendous.
The Benefits:
Hourly wage of $20.07 for Fellowship year one. Our generous benefits package is designed to speak to employees’ needs and to support and enhance your lifestyle with an emphasis on quality of life and work-life balance. Full-time work-week hours are 37.50 hours per week and part-time hours are 20 hours per week.
