The Myopia Heritage & Facilities:
Myopia Hunt Club is a fully private, historic, and first-class country club experience for all members and their guests. Club members enjoy seven Har Tru tennis courts, a pool facility with a snack bar, a six lane lap pool and baby pool. Members regularly play golf on a course designed by Herbert C. Leeds that consistently ranks as a top 100 course in the country. We offer a true equestrian experience with plenty of room for members’ horses and hounds to enjoy fox hunting. The food and beverage department includes the Main Clubhouse with four full-service formal dining rooms, a large full-service outdoor dining space, a 150-person function room, six overnight guest rooms and multiple sitting rooms. The Lower Clubhouse is a full-service casual atmosphere with seventy seats, two squash courts and four paddle tennis courts. The Club is open twelve months a year.
Job Summary
The Assistant Barn Manager will report directly to the Head Trainer and support her with barn operations. Weekends are required. This position serves as the assistant manager of nine ponies. It focuses on the daily hands-on horse care, feeding, medical administration, and routine facility cleaning, such as mucking stalls and general barn cleaning, with opportunities, based on experience. There is an opportunity for individual to attain riding instructors license and be able to teach lessons the following season. The employee must pass a background check.
Objectives
- Feed ponies at least two times per day at regularly scheduled times.
- Lead ponies back-and-forth to pastures and bring into the barn. Ponies are a night turnout. 8 AM is the morning shift 2 PM is the afternoon shift.
- Applying any practical support, such as bell boots, blankets, fly gear, fly spray, grooming, washing etc.
- Administer medication/therapies
- Hold for a vet, farrier, etc.
- Monitor horse health and notify clients and head trainer with any concerns
- Change blankets as weather requires
- Wash clients, blankets, fly sheets, bell boots, as well as towels daily
- Drop hay down from the loft and restock in stalls once a month
- Collect hay nets, re-stuff them, and put them back outside daily
- Muck stalls, muck pasture, change outside water, put out hay nets, stuff hay nets, clean and refill water buckets, re-bed stalls with shavings.
- Sweep, rake, and water barn aisles and entryway
- Identify maintenance issues/concerns and report to the head of grounds
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Physical Demands
- Ability to continuously stand or walk
- Ability to bend, squat and lift objects of 50 pounds frequently
- Ability to climb up and down on farm equipment and ladders
- Ability to work in a traditional barn environment, including dust, walking on uneven surfaces, etc.
Classifications
Hourly compensation of $20-$25 per hour up to 30 hours per week for the months of August through December . Work hours for periods between December and April will be determined based on workload.
