Applicants seeking short-term or part-time work with the University of Hawai'i may apply for Casual Hire positions, which include administrative, professional, and technical (APT) or instructional-type positions. Because of the temporary nature of these appointments, Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits as provided to regular Board of Regents (BOR) and Civil Service employees. Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for full-time employees, and up to 1 calendar year for part-time employees.

Other Conditions: Casual Hire temporary appointment is expected begin September 2025, or soon thereafter. Must be able to work nights and weekends.
Duties:
- Provides outreach and instructional services to students, faculty, and library patrons in group or classroom settings
- Develops bibliographic instructional materials, including but not limited to online instructional resources such as library guides or online tutorials
- Provides online database and online searching assistance
- Explores innovative ways to incorporate existing and emerging technologies to serve all library patrons
- Performs subject liaison duties as needed
- Participates in committees and special projects as needed
- Collaborates with faculty and staff in the library and other units in the University
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- ALA-accredited MLS or equivalent
- Strong communication abilities and strong analytical, organizational, and planning skills
- Strong commitment to service excellence
- Demonstrated ability to guide patrons in the use of library services and resources
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative on projects and quickly learn new tools/skills
- Ability to work within a collegial framework, to collaborate effectively, and respond with flexibility to the changing needs and priorities of a complex academic organization.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with students and faculty as well as fellow staff members.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Knowledge of information and research sources, issues and trends in academic libraries
- Experience providing reference services in an academic library setting
- Demonstrated understanding of the academic research process and scholarly communication
- Demonstrated experience in classroom or group teaching at the post-compulsory level
- Demonstrated understanding of teaching methods, instructional design, and current instructional technologies
- Experience creating and using technologies, building and maintaining web pages, and utilizing bibliographic management software
- Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of current technologies and software used in academic libraries.
