VMG is seeking a skilled and dedicated Catholic Musician to support weekly Masses, rehearsals, and special liturgical services for the Catholic parish at Joint Base Charleston. This position plays a central role in creating a reverent and spiritually engaging worship experience by leading the Catholic choir and providing musical accompaniment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as pianist and/or accompanist during weekly Sunday Mass and scheduled rehearsals.
- Direct and develop the Catholic choir in preparation for liturgical celebrations.
- Select and prepare music in consultation with the Catholic Chaplain or Priest, ensuring alignment with the liturgical calendar.
- Coordinate music for special services including Confirmation, First Communion, and Holy Days of Obligation.
- Ensure setup and breakdown of all musical equipment (microphones, music stands, etc.) before and after each service.
- Submit Chapel Tithes & Offering Funds (CTOF) requests for music needs.
- Attend music program review meetings and comply with facility reservation and security protocols.
- Participate in annual CTOF and facility usage training.
Education and/or Experience
Required:
- Proficiency in reading music and accompanying choir or congregational singing.
- Prior experience providing music for Catholic Mass or similar liturgical services.
- Understanding of the Catholic liturgical year and sacred music requirements.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and reliably in a military setting.
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in Music, Liturgical Music, or a related field.
- Experience directing choirs in a military, parish, or interfaith environment.
Requirements
- Must be eligible for base access and pass a government background check.
- Must be available Sunday mornings and for weekly rehearsals.
- Must maintain professional standards of appearance and conduct.
- Must complete mandatory CTOF and safety trainings annually.
