VMG is seeking a mission-aligned Catholic Religious Education Coordinator to manage and execute religious education programs for the Catholic parish community at Joint Base Charleston. This role will oversee children's and adult RE programming, prepare participants for sacraments, and collaborate closely with the Chapel leadership team. The coordinator ensures that all programming adheres to Archdiocese for the Military Services (AMS) guidance and doctrinal standards of the Catholic Church.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The RE Coordinator will:
- Plan and deliver children’s Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD), RCIA, Confirmation, Baptismal preparation, and adult Bible study sessions.
- Collaborate with the Catholic Service Chaplain and Catholic Community Coordinator to assess needs and design a liturgically appropriate curriculum.
- Recruit, train, and supervise volunteer RE teachers across age groups.
- Coordinate RE schedules and ensure maximum parishioner participation.
- Submit Chapel Tithes & Offering Funds (CTOF) requests for educational materials and program needs.
- Prepare educational spaces with all required equipment and maintain orderly facilities.
- Order liturgical materials and ensure adherence to doctrinal, AMS, and DOD guidance.
- Participate in mandatory CTOF and safety training.
- Adapt programming to fit evolving needs based on annual ministry planning.
Education and/or Experience
Required:
- Practicing Catholic in full communion with the Church and the AMS.
- Familiarity with Second Vatican Council teachings and USCCB statements.
- Demonstrated leadership in RE programming.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently in a pluralistic, military setting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Preferred:
- Bachelor's degree in Theology, Education, Religious Studies, or related field.
- Understanding of military chaplaincy and culture.
Requirements
- U.S. citizenship and ability to pass background/security checks for base access.
- Must be available for weekly programming on Sundays and periodic meetings/trainings during the week.
- Commitment to doctrinal fidelity and alignment with AMS standards.
