Position Overview: The Division of School Improvement supports low-performing campuses statewide in implementing research-based strategies and interventions to improve outcomes for thousands of students statewide.
The Deputy Director, Campus Support Team is a critical and highly field facing role in the division leading high impact support to campuses with the highest needs, and effectively managing and coaching a team of five Campus Support Specialists to do so. This person will collaborate with division leadership to develop the strategy for and implement a yearlong campus support approach anchored in research-based strategies for improvement, particularly high quality instructional material and aligned instructional leadership and coaching strategies. The director will support specialists and districts in formulating and implementing high-quality Targeted Improvement and Turnaround Plans in alignment with Effective Schools Framework diagnostic results.
The core part of the role is conducting and coaching specialists to conduct strong, support-oriented campus observations/walkthroughs and tracking fidelity of implementation of campus strategies, followed by coaching sessions with campus leaders and coordinators to enhance implementation. Additionally, the director and their team will collaborate closely with regional service center and vendor partners providing technical assistance, offering feedback and ensuring mutual actions align, while effectively navigating any issues concerning campus support. As such, this role entails an interest in leveraging research-based curriculum and instruction expertise to coach and support campuses, as well as an ability to manage relationships and multiple parties effectively.
As one of three directors reporting up to the Division Director of School Improvement, the Deputy Director, Campus Support Team will also be a key leader fostering a collaborative and positive team culture within the division and across the broader department school improvement sits within, the Department of District Planning & Supports.

Essential Functions
Job duties are not limited to the essential functions mentioned below. You may perform other functions as assigned.
1. Campus Support Structures, Planning, Performance Management: Collaborate with division leadership to plan and train internal team and ESC partners on yearlong campus support approach; develop and manage key systems, content, tools, and structures (e.g., fidelity of implementation tracking systems; campus observation tool aligned to high quality instructional material and instructional leadership team strategies/guidance; stepback structures with regional service center partners; internal team stepback structures)
2. High Impact Plan Development: Directly support campuses in developing and manage team toward developing high quality Targeted Improvement Plan and Turnaround Plan development (high quality defined as in alignment with Effective Sc diagnostic results, prioritizing high quality instructional material and TIL strategies for vast majority of campuses, and anchored in aligned research-based metrics for fidelity of implementation of the chosen strategies)
3. Fidelity of Implementation Observation and Tracking: Directly conduct and manage team toward conducting campus observations, collect campus-reported and regional service center/vendor-reported milestone data and artifacts to gauge fidelity of implementation of high impact strategies; aggregate key trends to share back with internal agency program teams developing content and training and vetting vendors (e.g., internal agency teams leading curriculum and instructional program support statewide)
4. Fidelity of Implementation Coaching and Management: Directly facilitate and manage team toward facilitating coaching and performance management calls/touchpoints with campus leaders and District Coordinators of School Improvement; provide direct feedback to regional service center/vendor partners and navigate issues with campus support (e.g., sharing observed lack of key support structures like sufficient curriculum internalization time and support for teachers and supporting team to develop action steps);
5. Team Management: Manage and coach teammates effectively toward high fidelity of implementation and outcomes for campuses in their caseload and toward individual development goals and needs; foster a positive, productive, and collaborative team culture
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university.
- Experience: At least five (5) years of experience in education, including at least two years in campus or district leadership (e.g., instructional coaching, campus administration, teacher leader), and one year managing at least one direct report.
- Substitutions: An advanced degree may substitute for two years of required experience.
- Share the belief that all Texas students can achieve at high levels and are able to succeed in college, career, or the military
- Drive to dramatically improve student experiences and outcomes, particularly in high needs campuses
- Passion for research-based curriculum and instruction strategies, including high quality instructional material and instructional leadership practices implementation
- Coaching capacity, preferably with a prior background in coaching instructional leaders, teachers, or others responsible for managing and improving instructional delivery
- Strong project management skills to support keeping plan development and coaching support on track across a caseload of campuses
- Ability to scale a learning curve and deeply understand and externally speak to multiple research-based intervention strategies, the Texas accountability system, and other key facets of the work
- Ability to act with purpose and take initiative to connect with internal and external parties to drive shifts at campuses
- Solutions orientation and ability to support a positive team culture

- Prior experience with Texas schools and broad knowledge of Texas education preferred.
