DPW Assistant Director/ Superintendent

DPW Director
Summary of Position:
Working closely with the DPW Director, the Superintendent supervises the activities of the staff
within the DPW. This role is critical to maintaining and enhancing the Village’s infrastructure
and ensuring the delivery of essential public services. The Public Works Superintendent will be
responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Public Works Department team.
Duties Include:
- Reviews the preparation and submission of reports for inspections, permits,
and plans to ensure that they comply with city, state, and federal codes and
regulations.
- Facilitates the day-to-day operations of the Department of Public Works.
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee maintenance and repairs of water mains, valves,
hydrants, streets, sidewalks, parks, and stormwater infrastructure.
- Identifies opportunities to establish and maintain excellent customer service
levels by resolving complex issues in a timely and courteous manner, improving
service workflows, enhancing productivity, and sourcing necessary resources to
ensure delivery expectations are exceeded.
- Manage seasonal operations, including snow removal, landscaping, and tree
trimming
- Conduct safety meetings and enforce compliance with OSHA and Village safety
- Coordinate with other departments, contractors, and utilities as needed.
- Supports the Director during emergencies and natural disasters.
Position Requirements:
- Prefer a degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Construction Science or
- Excellent communication (verbal & written), organizational, supervisory, and planning skills.
- Three (3) or more years in a supervisory role.
- Must possess and maintain in good standing, a valid Illinois driver's license.
- Possession of and ability to maintain a valid State of Illinois Driver's License is required.
- Class C Water License Preferred
