The Director of Manufacturing will oversee the end-to-end operations, production, and supply chain for a leading Retail Display and Design company specializing in metal and wood products.
This role is responsible for ensuring that all aspects of manufacturing and operations across our facilities in San Diego and Mexico are running efficiently, meeting quality standards, and delivering projects on time and within budget.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in manufacturing(wood and metal), supply chain management, and process improvement, with a focus on production efficiency and quality manufacturing focused on Retail Displays.
This leader will work with design, sales, and project management teams to ensure seamless coordination on all projects as it relates to the products being manufactured, optimize production processes, and complete projects on time and on budget.
**Key Responsibilities: **
1. **Operations Management: **
- Oversee day-to-day manufacturing operations in both the San Diego and Mexico facilities.
- Ensure that production schedules align with project timelines and customer expectations.
- Implement and maintain operational excellence and efficiency in all processes within Tinker Tin's domestic and Mexico based manufacturing.
- Develop and maintain SOPs to streamline production and improve product quality and consistency.
2. **Manufacturing Oversight: **
- Lead manufacturing operations, including metal fabrication, woodworking, and assembly processes.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, quality control standards, and best practices in all facilities.
- Troubleshoot production issues and implement solutions to improve productivity and reduce downtime.
3. **Team Leadership & Development: **
- Manage and mentor a team of supervisors, production staff, and supply chain professionals across multiple locations.
- Lead hiring, training, and development initiatives to ensure a skilled and efficient workforce.
- Foster a positive and collaborative work culture, encouraging innovation and continuous improvement.
4. **Strategic Planning & Execution: **
- Collaborate with the executive team to align manufacturing operations with the company’s strategic goals.
- Identify opportunities for expansion, new technologies, and process improvements to enhance production
capabilities.
- Develop annual budgets, forecast production needs, and track KPIs to ensure alignment with financial objectives.
5. **Supply Chain & Vendor Management: **
- Oversee sourcing of raw materials (metal, wood, and other components) ensuring cost-effective and high-quality
procurement.
- Build and maintain relationships with suppliers and partners in the U.S. and Mexico.
- Negotiate contracts, manage inventory levels, and optimize logistics for timely delivery of materials and finished
goods.
6. **Process Improvement & Innovation: **
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, or other methodologies to reduce waste, improve
quality, and enhance production efficiency.
- Identify and implement new manufacturing technologies to stay ahead in the custom retail display market.
- Ensure sustainability practices are considered in the manufacturing process, including waste reduction and resource
optimization.
7. **Cross-Departmental Collaboration: **
- Work closely with the design and engineering teams to ensure manufacturability of custom displays while
maintaining design integrity.
- Coordinate with the sales and project management teams to deliver projects on time and within client specifications.
- Act as the key liaison between U.S. and Mexico operations, ensuring seamless communication and collaboration.
**Qualifications: **
- Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, or related field (Master’s
preferred).
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in manufacturing operations, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Strong background in metal fabrication, woodworking, or similar industries.
- Proven experience managing cross-border operations, specifically between the U.S. and Mexico.
- Expertise in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar process improvement methodologies.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to manage large teams across multiple locations.
- Experience in budget management, supply chain optimization, and vendor negotiation.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
**Travel: **
- 25% travel to Mexico facilities.

$100k-$150k – Performance based bonus - $20k+
