POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Robinson Rancheria Citizens Business Council and Tribal Administrator, the Environmental Director position will manage all activities for the Tribe’s Environmental Department. This position will be responsible for the capacity-building and implementation of the Tribe’s Environmental programs and work plans. Under the supervision of the Tribal Administrator, the Environmental Director will coordinate and implement all activities associated with the Tribe’s Environmental Plan, including but not limited to environmental assessments, conducting research, interpreting data, supervising and managing outside contractors and/or consultants, providing technical assistance, providing outreach and education activities, and identifying and pursuing other funding for the Environmental Department. This position will develop, implement and monitor environmental strategies, policies, and programs that promote sustainable development for our Tribal Community and its Tribal Membership.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLILITIES:
- Plan, organize and oversee the strategic administration of the Robinson Rancheria Environmental Department.
- Develop and implement Environmental program strategies, goals, objectives, project work plans and budgets in accordance with established timelines.
- Prepare budgets and reports to support, maintain, evaluate and improve tribal programs and seek grant funding to expand and stabilize the economic growth of department operations.
- Advise Tribal Council and Tribal Administrator regarding issues, actions and/or developments that affect the natural and biological resources of Robinson Rancheria.
- Work effectively and collaboratively with the Tribe’s accounting department for financial reporting of all Federal and State grants, including annual budgets.
- Create and maintain all environmental files for all Federal and State Grants.
- Provide meaningful weekly reports to Tribal Administrator and to Tribal Council, and provide a report at the General Membership Meeting, as requested.
- Must be able to attend meetings with Tribal Council, including quarterly General Membership Meetings, as requested.
- Research and prepare grant applications for environmental issues and other projects, as assigned.
- Research, prepare, present and implement an effective outreach and public education campaign on environmental programs and issues important to our Tribal Community and our Tribal Members
- Network and coordinate with local, regional, statewide and national organizations regarding environmental issues for the benefit of the Tribe, relaying information to Tribal Council.
- Establish, network and maintain on-going relationships with other Tribe’s environmental departments to develop collaborative efforts when necessary for the benefit of our Tribe, and convey information.
- Must be sensitive to Tribal Culture and/or Cultural differences.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires a BA/BS degree, preferably in a related field, and/or minimum 5 years of previous related experience. Applicants should possess complete working knowledge and skills necessary for Federal, State and Native Lands programs, regulations, codes, and ordinances, including knowledge of NEPA and CEQA. Qualified candidates must have the ability to research and prepare successful grant proposals and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Suitable applicants must possess a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products and general Windows environment, including utilizing the electronic mail system. This person must be able to work prescribed hours and have the ability to fulfill work schedules routinely and punctually. Successful applicants must possess strong time and project management skills, strong organizational and public speaking skills, with basic financial management knowledge. This person must have the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with all supervisors, co-workers, office personnel and Tribal Members.
EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE:
- Degree preferably in a related field
- Minimum 5 years of related experience
- Preferably 1 year of Environmental Studies
- Minimum 1 year of administrative and/or supervising staff
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

- Minimum of 21 years old
- Valid Driver’s License in good standing, insurable on the Tribe’s insurance policy
- Employee will serve 90-day probationary period
ENVIROMENTAL AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Candidate must be able to bend and lift up to 50 pounds, tolerate long periods of working under inclement conditions, possess knowledge of safety, capable of implementing scientific studies in the field, data analysis, and research methods.
