Head of Product, Commercial Bank Capital Markets

Capital Markets | Head of Product | Senior Director

The Capital Markets Group is a high growth business within Capital One’s commercial bank serving corporate and institutional clients across multiple business lines including M&A, syndicate finance (loans, bond, equity and structured products) and customer derivatives.

As the Head of Product for Capital Markets you will be responsible for the business software and platforms that power our clients and those who serve them from the front and back-office. You will work closely with the heads of each business to ensure that their teams have the tools they need to advise clients, manage risk, and execute on trades and transactions in a well-managed and compliant manner.

Reporting to Chief Product Officer of the Commercial Bank and sitting on the Product Leadership Team for the Commercial Bank, you’ll also play a key role in building the larger Product Management organization. You’ll help shape our culture, grow our talent, and be an ambassador for Product Management across the company.

Product Management at Capital One is a booming, vibrant craft that requires reimagining the status quo, finding value creation opportunities, and driving innovative and sustainable customer experiences through technology. We believe our portfolio of businesses and investments in growth and transformation will result in a company with the scale, brand, capabilities, talent, and values to succeed as the digital revolution transforms our society and our industry.

Specifically, as the Head of Product for Capital Markets you will:

  • Work to deliver value to clients and business teams across our Structured Finance, Investment Banking, Derivatives, M&A, and Tax Credit Finance platforms.

  • Partner with business leaders to care for our existing platforms and to enable new Capital Markets capabilities that expand our portfolio of services for clients and in doing so drive continued revenue growth in an expanding business.

  • Establish the vision, roadmap, and execution of capital market platform and technology solutions based on your comprehensive understanding of our client, capital markets operations, and sound risk management practices.

  • Work closely with our product management partners in lending and treasury management to deliver more integrated client experiences and deepen client relationships.

  • Directly manage the prioritization of the work, capabilities, components, and infrastructures that are used by multiple customer solutions and customer facing products.

  • Confidently communicate and evangelize product and portfolio strategy across large organizations and executives to influence stakeholders to align behind the objectives.

  • Inspire, enable and empower teams to collaborate, plan, and deliver complex projects working across a matrixed organization.

What we are looking for:

  • Deep domain experience across the capital markets with particular emphasis on debt, equity, syndicate, derivatives (FX, Rates and Commodities) and corporate finance advisory.

  • Creative problem solver who provides thought leadership at the intersection of the human, business and technology dimensions and does so in a collaborative manner.

  • Comfort facing white space problems and proven ability to push through the uncertainty by gathering relevant data, enrolling stakeholders, and developing logically sound proposals.

  • Entrepreneurial executive who has a track record of successfully delivering on large and complex projects that deliver tangible value to clients and those who serve them.

  • Inspiring people leader with ability to mentor and develop junior product talent.

  • Relationship focused leader who cares about finding stakeholders and ensures that they are heard as projects move from discovery to delivery.

  • Reverence for human centric design and passion leveraging modern technology to help clients and users accomplish their goals with ease, consistency, and speed.

  • Strong risk management mindset with working knowledge of regulatory requirements relevant to the bank’s Broker Dealer (SEC / FINRA) and Swap Dealer (CFTC / NFA) activities.

  • Thought leader in the product management discipline with experience building and maturing high performing teams who obsess about clients, delivering value, and getting-stuff-done.

  • Aptitude to champion strategic technology initiatives to leap-frog current constraints and deliver transformational value.

  • Strong quantitative background to support data-informed decision making.

  • Designations including Series 7 / 63 License or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) certification

Basic Qualifications:

  • At least 9 years of experience working in Product Management

  • At least 7 years of experience in securities origination or trading management in Capital Markets

  • At least 7 years of experience in risk oversight or operational activities in Capital Markets

  • At least 3 years of experience managing people

  • At least 3 years of experience leading cross-functional product teams

  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining one of the following with an expectation that the required degree will be obtained on or before the scheduled start date:

    • A Bachelor's Degree in a quantitative field (Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Information Systems or a related quantitative field)
