Description
We seek a skilled individual to join our team and help ensure efficient operation and maintenance of our electric utility. This position in the Electric Line Division is responsible for maintenance and construction work on the City’s municipal electric utility and fiber optic communication system, to include overhead and underground 35kV transmission, 12kV distribution, and distribution substations.
Qualifications
- Minimum of four years of electrical or construction experience, completion of a qualified apprenticeship, and certification as a journeyman lineman.
- Knowledge of work methods and practices related to the maintenance and construction of an electrical utility system, all applicable safety procedures and precautions, and the use of equipment and tools used in electric utility systems.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong mathematical skills are essential.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and dexterity, the ability to perform difficult and hazardous assignments under harsh conditions, i.e., severe weather and varying environments, and the ability to lift 75 lbs. and climb and work on utility poles more than 50 feet.
- Carry a communication device to respond to emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, reporting to work within 75 minutes of receiving a request to respond to stand-by/call-in.
- Participate in a stand-by rotation.
- Effective interpersonal and written communication skills are critical to build rapport with co-workers, contractors, management, outside agencies, and the public.
- Valid CDL class A, with appropriate endorsements, or acquire one within 6 months of hire. CDL holders will be run through the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Clearinghouse pre-employment.
- If selected, successful completion of a background check, physical, drug screen, and functional capacity evaluation are required.
