GENERAL SUMMARY: Under direction, perform legal research and prepare draft legal

documents for Court Judge.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Attend court sessions, i.e. pre-trial conferences, hearings and trials; observe oral

documents; create working files on court matters; prepare case histories; confer with

Judge on recent cases and decisions having a bearing on present pending cases.

2. Research, interpret and analyze statutes and court precedent on specific questions

brought before the court; make copies of relevant pleading.

3. Draft legal procedures, Orders, Opinions and Memoranda; recommend appropriate

disposition to Judge.

4. Update or retrieve files, answer phones, perform related office duties.

Education/Employment:

Any combination of education and experience which indicates possession of the skills, knowledge and abilities listed below. An example of acceptable qualifications for this position is completion of a Juris Doctor Degree.

Knowledge:

Comprehensive knowledge of civil and criminal law.

Comprehensive knowledge of court procedures and rules of evidence.

Thorough knowledge of legal reference materials.

Thorough knowledge of research techniques.

Thorough knowledge of legal writing styles.

Abilities:

Ability to analyze facts and arrive a logical interpretation.

Ability to write in a coherent form.

Ability to maintain accurate and well-organized files.

Ability to use proper research methods.

Ability to establish effective working relationships with attorneys and clients.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed independently in office environment and courtroom.
