Part-Time Orchestra Instructor (Violin, Viola, and Cello)
STEAMspark is seeking a dedicated and inspiring Part-Time Orchestra Instructor to teach beginning string students (ages 5–9) the fundamentals of violin, viola, and cello in a joyful and structured setting. This is a wonderful opportunity for a skilled musician and educator to share the magic of orchestral music with young learners in a creative, mission-driven environment.

As our Part-Time Orchestra Instructor, you’ll guide small group classes 2–3 times per week during the afternoon hours. Your students will gain foundational skills in violin, viola, and cello while building musical confidence, ear training, and ensemble awareness.
Work Schedule
- Part-time position
- Afternoon classes, typically between 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM, two to three days per week
- Exact schedule will be determined based on child enrollment and class grouping
Key Responsibilities
Music Instruction & Ensemble Preparation
- Teach age-appropriate classes in violin, viola, and cello fundamentals
- Introduce beginning music theory, ear training, and basic ensemble skills
- Prepare students for informal performances or showcases as scheduled
- Select appropriate repertoire to match students’ developmental levels
- Prepare for and attend our Winter (December) and Spring (April/May) recitals
Child Engagement & Growth
- Create a positive and inclusive environment that fosters joy and confidence in music-making
- Adapt instruction to meet a range of learning styles and developmental needs
- Offer supportive feedback and guidance to encourage musical growth
Collaboration & Communication
- Communicate regularly with families and school staff regarding progress, practice, and performance opportunities
- Coordinate with other arts instructors to integrate music into school events or showcases
- Maintain attendance and basic records for each student
Required Qualifications
- Strong proficiency in violin, viola, and/or cello
- Experience teaching string instruments to children, preferably ages 5–9
- Enthusiasm for working in a nurturing Montessori-inspired environment
- Clear communication and classroom management skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Music Education or Performance (or current music student with teaching experience)
- Experience leading beginning string ensembles or chamber groups
- Background in Suzuki or similar early childhood string methods
- CPR/First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain)
