Passages is the Mat-Su Valley's premier pet crematory service. Along with euthanasia, we provide professional and compassionate aftercare for all pets - those brought to us directly and those brought to us indirectly through their veterinarian.
Position Summary:
Ensure the public has a positive experience by delivering exceptional, knowledgeable and compassionate customer service. Assist the public by answering questions, schedule cremations and euthanasia appointments. Responsible for working with staff to ensure Passages runs efficiently and effectively on a consistent basis.
Primary Responsibilities Duties:
- Maintain the highest standards of customer service to include:
o Being professional, empathetic and respectful to clients.
o Discuss and schedule euthanasia and cremation with clients in a compassionate and non-judgmental manner.
o Assist clients in purchasing urns and keepsakes for their pet companions.
- Maintain a clean and tidy environment by mopping, vacuuming, dusting, doing laundry etc.
- Comply with all of Passages Pet Cremation policies and best practices, including a keen attention to detail as well as a high standard of dependability for promptness and attendance.
- Answer inquiries from past, current, and potential clients.
- Provide guidance to the public on the services offered by Passages Pet Cremation.
- Prepare paw prints and other pet keepsakes.
- Accurately process customer transactions for retail items and services.
- Assist Dr. Espey with veterinary clinic pick-ups twice a week and be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
- Keep the euthanasia rooms well stocked and clean.
- Lawn maintenance and snow removal depending on the season.
- Other duties as assigned
Essential Functions:
- Deliver exceptional customer service and respectful handling of deceased pets.
- For success in this position a candidate must be able to prioritize tasks as well as multi-task and manage time wisely.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with co-workers, management, and the public at all times - demonstrating a team-oriented, compassionate, and positive attitude.
- Perform clerical duties such as logging pets in for cremation, answering a multi-line phone system, returning phone calls, making copies as needed, cash handling, data entry, filing etc.
- High level of comfort and ability to closely work with deceased pet companions including:
o Assisting owners with deceased animals by helping them get the body onto a gurney, weighing the pet, attaching the id tag, trimming a small amount of fur, making a clay paw print impression, placing the pet in a bag etc.

Position Requirements:
Required:
- High school diploma or GED
- Ability to work the scheduled hours on a regular basis and accurately perform all aspects of the job including directly handling large and small deceased animals.
- Legible Handwriting
- Background check and drug screen - an offer of employment is contingent on the satisfactory results of a thorough background check and drug screen. Periodic, random drug screening may be performed during the period of employment.
- Previous work references
Preferred:
- Experience working effectively with people in high-stress, emotional situations
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in general office work and/or customer service
- Experience working in a veterinary clinic
Environment:
- Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs. to waist height in order to move pets
- Repetitive bending, kneeling, stooping and similar movements are required
- Ability to work around loud machinery in a warehouse type setting
- Ability to work outside for short periods of time all year round
