Job Summary
The Flexo Press Operator at The Flexo Xperience Center is responsible for the setup, operation, maintenance, and demonstration of the SOMA Optima 2 flexographic printing press. This role includes handling all aspects of the printing process, including plate mounting, ink preparation (solvent-based and water-based), and substrate loading. The operator will perform print demonstrations for clients and exhibitions, conduct training sessions, and maintain the Demo Center's printing equipment in optimal condition.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain SOMA Optima 2 flexographic presses, and SOMA S-Mount A plate mounter ensuring quality and efficiency.
- Set up print jobs including mounting/demounting plates, preparing inks, and loading substrates (paper and plastic film).
- Perform customer-based print trials and machine demonstrations at the Demo Center and during exhibitions or Open House events.
- Train customer operators at the Demo Center or on-site at customer locations.
- Ensure proper documentation and storage of printed samples using a detailed "job protocol".
- Maintain cleanliness and order of the printing area, machines, and surrounding workspace.
- Oversee inventory of consumables (inks, substrates, tapes) and ensure accurate reporting on usage per print job.
- Monitor and maintain the condition of critical Demo Center equipment (e.g., sleeves, anilox rollers).
- Follow safety procedures, technological standards, and center regulations.
- Carry out instructions from supervisors and proactively support process improvements.
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience operating flexographic printing presses, preferably Soma Optima 2.
- Strong understanding of flexographic printing processes including ink handling, plate mounting, and substrate feeding.
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to perform routine machine maintenance.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to print quality.
- Ability to interpret customer requirements and set up the press accordingly.
- Strong organizational skills for maintaining a clean and orderly work environment.
