Position Summary
Hours: 8:00 am – 12:00 pm (4-hour shifts, 5 shifts per week)
Program dates: Monday-Friday mornings at the end of the overnight shelter shift.
We are looking for reliable, safe, patient, and resourceful Part-time Program Support Staff to provide direct service support to young adults (age 18-25) experiencing homelessness.
Program Support Staff reports to the Director of Day Programming and Shelter Services within the Direct Services Team. Paid training will be provided.
Primary Responsibilities
- Debrief with shelter staff at start of shift
- Oversee chores, laundry, shower access, and lockers
- Complete communication logs, notes, and reports
- Ensure safety for young adults and staff – provide presence, reassurance, and support to clients
- Enforce program expectations throughout the shift, de-escalate conflicts, and respond to emergencies according to policies/protocols.
- Close shelter, exit guests, and ensure space is clean
- Enter and manage data and enrollments in HMIS
- Conduct program intakes and make referrals as needed
- Ensure timely communication (in person and by email, text, and or/phone) with team members, and director as needed
- Stay up to date with new policies, procedures, equipment, and systems
- Support the overall goals and mission of the Shelter Program, Direct Service Team and Organization
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Min 1 year experience working with young adults in social services setting
- Demonstrated experience with teamwork, and a willingness to engage in collaborative problem solving
- Proficient within the PC environment including Word, Excel, and Outlook
Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Experience working with overnight/shelter/residential programs
- Understanding of Trauma Informed Care
- Proficiency in using HMIS/Bitfocus
- Knowledge of community resources available to young adults
