The City of Hampton iis seeking dedicated, hardworking individuals to perform heavy manual work in the maintenance of drainage ways and related structures. This vital role ensures the proper function of our stormwater systems and helps prevent flooding and environmental damage. As a member of our Public Works team, you’ll work under close supervision following established procedures, gaining hands-on experience while contributing to essential infrastructure. Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • One (1) year of full-time equivalent experience operating related equipment or a closely related experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria.
  • This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City’s current substance abuse policy.
  • Must successfully pass a background check prior to any offer of employment or promotion.

Additional Requirements

  • May require working beyond a standard 40-hour work week to include evenings and weekends.
  • The incumbent may be considered “essential personnel” during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
