Summary
Administers standard concepts, policies, practices, and procedures. Ensures employees follow guidelines and generate finished work product timely and within budgetary constraints. Oversees product outcome and maintains established quality levels.
- Manage the Food Safety Management and Quality Systems within ERU site locations
- Devise and establish quality procedures, standards, and specifications for domestic and international business needs, review, revise, and improve existing systems on a period basis
- Ensure compliance to set procedures, standards, and specifications
- Implement quality plans based on strategic initiatives
- Provide cross functional plant quality leadership
- Lead QC department in customer, regulatory and certification audits
- Lead the QC team to produce precise, accurate and timely test and calibration data; act as the technical expert on QC expectations for plant personnel
- Lead and manage the QC team to maintain accurate and functional quality records, instructions and manuals in compliance
- Direct the operation of the plant QC teams and DC team to ensure the timely and proper release of products. Ensure accurate and appropriate testing is completed using Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and all safety requirements
- Work with purchasing and supply chain to establish quality requirements for external suppliers
- Work with operations and quality assurance to understand current demands on laboratory services
- Ensure that non-routine testing is performed in a timely manner
- Review customer quality requirements and insure they are met
- Work with and communicate effectively with coworkers, subcontractors, staff, consultants, etc.
- Analyze current systems and processes and recommend and implement process improvements, waste reduction, and increased efficiencies
- Monitor performance by gathering relevant data and producing regular and on demand statistical reports
- Provide plant operations with technical support related to our products including root cause investigation of product failures and analytical service requests from customers. Communicate trends and significant findings to management.
- Train and guide Quality staff on relevant quality tools, industry best practices, and ongoing education
- Provide technical support to laboratory technicians, analysts and operators in the use of applicable analytical equipment and methodologies
- Attend staff and department meetings
- Schedule and run department meetings for Quality Department
- Effectively communicate across multiple teams within ERU
- In conjunction with site leadership, manage communication to all levels of the organization, including regular reporting requirements.
- Perform all other duties as assigned
- Report any and all injuries to your supervisor or manager at the time of injury.
- Complete all required training in a timely manner
- Adhere to ERU food safety policies and all government food safety and sanitation regulations (ex. FDA, HACCP, GMP, OSHA)
- Direct and schedule Quality team – including interviewing, hiring, training, planning and schedule, performance reviews, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints, and resolving issues
- Bachelor’s Degree in a Food Science or Microbiology related field or equivalent experience/education combination
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience in management of quality control & quality assurance programs
- Minimum 5 years supervisory or management experience
- Lab Tech Certification program
- HACCP certification
- Preventative Controls for Qualified Individual Certification
- Principals of Internal Auditing Certification
- Antibiotics Testing and Certification
- Certified Industrial Supervisor with the Department of Agriculture WATCP within the first year OR Industrial Supervisor with the Department of Agriculture WATCP within the first year, depending on location
- Microbiology and food safety training
- Knowledge of cheesemaking, Pasteurization Milk Ordinance (PMO), and food safety
- Intermediate computer skills including e-mail, word processing, databases and spreadsheets
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents and requirements
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively in a team environment, build consensus, and foster relationships at multiple organizational levels and across functions.
- Demonstrate excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize based on company needs.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with JD Edwards software is preferred
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize and make a decision under pressure
- Demonstrate analytical problem solving skills and knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices.
