GENERAL FUNCTION
Under the direct supervision of the VP of Risk and Safety and consistent with the Christian mission of the YMCA, the Certification Instructor provides leadership to staff and participants for staff and participants in courses such as, but not limited to American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Lifeguard courses.
KNOW-HOW
Incumbent must pass YMCA background checks and have current trainer level certifications of courses to be taught.

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES
- Conduct American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Lifeguard certification courses, including in-person, blended learning, and review sessions.
- Deliver engaging, hands-on instruction that meets or exceeds Red Cross standards.
- Evaluate participant performance through written exams, practical skills assessments, and scenario-based testing.
- Set up and maintain training equipment, including manikins, AED trainers, and aquatic training gear.
- Ensure safety standards are upheld during all practical skill sessions, especially in water-based environments.
- Maintain accurate attendance and certification records and submit them in a timely manner.
- Provide feedback and coaching to participants to support skill development and confidence.
- Stay current with Red Cross curriculum updates and recertify as needed.

- Our staff teams stay current on all required certifications and are given ample opportunities to recert as needed.
