Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Referral Coordinator to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in managing patient referrals, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations, and facilitating communication between patients, providers, and insurance companies. This position requires a strong understanding of medical terminology, coding systems, and managed care processes.
Duties
- Coordinate patient referrals to specialists and ensure timely processing of all requests.
- Verify insurance eligibility and benefits for patients prior to referrals.
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Utilize CPT coding, ICD-9, and ICD-10 for accurate billing and coding practices.
- Communicate effectively with patients regarding their referral status and any necessary follow-up actions.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care for patients.
- Assist in the management of medical records, ensuring they are up-to-date and organized.
- Provide support in the dental office as needed, leveraging experience from both medical and dental environments.
Requirements
- Previous experience in a medical office setting is required; dental office experience is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of managed care processes and insurance verification procedures.
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations to maintain patient confidentiality.
- Proficient in medical terminology and coding systems including CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Strong communication skills to interact with patients, providers, and insurance representatives professionally.
