This position is a member of our General Law Division.
HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
- Provides moderately complex administrative support for staff attorneys, senior attorneys, coordinators, supervisors, and investigators for the Office of Legal Services of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
- Prepares documents and correspondence for legal proceedings and for use in the office environment. Proofreads, edits, formats and prepares documents in accordance with TCEQ accessibility guidelines and other requirements. Organizes documents and correspondence for mailings and filings with governmental entities; files documents with governmental entities; mails, faxes, and hand-delivers documents; and transcribes audio proceedings.
- Maintains databases; tracks information; and compiles technical data for reports, correspondence, and legal documents. Obtain reports from databases.
- Organizes, assembles, and maintains cases, notebooks, files, and records. Develops, organizes, and maintains electronic and hardcopy filing systems. Scans and photocopies of information.
- Performs special functions which may include scheduling meetings; maintaining calendars; reserving meeting facilities; answering phones including the OLS reception phone; coordinating travel arrangements and preparing agency travel forms; and logging pending and completed assignments.
Qualifications
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
One year as a Legal Secretary I at TCEQ.
OR
Graduation from an accredited high school, plus two years of full-time experience providing clerical or administrative support.
One semester (15 semester hours) of accredited college work may be substituted for each six months of the required experience.
Completion of 300 clock hours of course work in the clerical field from a licensed vocational, technical, or business school may be substituted for each six months of the required experience.
OR
Graduation from an accredited high school, plus one year of full-time experience as a legal secretary.
Completion of a legal secretarial curriculum from a licensed vocational, technical, or business school may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
- Employees in this classification series may research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure, including but not limited to a communication infrastructure system, cybersecurity system, electric grid, hazardous waste treatment system, or water treatment facility. See Tex. Business & Commerce Code Section 117.001(2). Accordingly, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is a requirement to be hired for and to continue to be employed with TCEQ.

WORK SCHEDULE
Standard business hours are M-F, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Individual and work group schedule determined by the General Law Division.
