Insurance Specialist I (Windstorm Intake Specialist)

The Windstorm Intake Specialist performs technical insurance work, data entry, and information assistance to customers regarding windstorm inspections.

This position:

  • Performs entry-level data entry; processes and issues windstorm certificates; audits inspection documentation including applications, field forms, logs, and certifications for accuracy and completeness; and electronically barcode scanned files to be sent to the image indexer to be indexed to the application.
  • Responds to inquiries from TWIA, engineering firms, builders, contractors, industry representatives, and coworkers on windstorm inspection rules and procedures; manages a heavy volume of telephone inquiries related to the Windstorm Inspections Program; prepares correspondence and advises others on windstorm matters.
  • May assist with educating the public and industry professionals on TDI rules, policies, and changes.
  • Monitors program activities to ensure compliance with orders and regulations.
  • Maintains records and files; assists with open record requests; prepares closed files for scanning.
  • Supports the implementation of agency goals and objectives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
 

Qualifications

 

This position requires: 

  • Thirty college hours.
  • Six months of experience in technical insurance matters or in a field relative to assignment.
  • Regular work attendance.

Note:

  • Education and experience relevant to position requirements may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis.

  • The interview will include a writing test.

This position requires demonstrated knowledge of:

  • State laws, rules, procedures, and regulations relevant to job requirements.
  • Insurance principles and practices.

This position requires demonstrated skill in:

  • Problem solving and critical thinking.
  • Using Microsoft Office software applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint.
  • Using personal computers sufficient to enter and extract data from related systems and programs such as Centralized Accounting Payroll and Personnel (CAPPS) and other systems required to perform the job.
  • Maintaining records.
  • Effective oral and verbal communication.

This position requires the demonstrated ability to:

  • Communicate and work effectively with a wide range of people with varied skills, knowledge, and backgrounds.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Analyze and solve work-related problems and work independently on a variety of administrative work and technical assignments.
  • Manage and coordinate multiple tasks and priorities to meet necessary deadlines.
  • Work both independently and as a team player.
  • Comprehend and apply complex regulatory rules and statutes to determine compliance or solve problems.
  • Select and accurately transcribe data from several source documents.
  • Perform a series of procedural steps.
  • Interpret rules, regulations, filing requirements, policies, and procedures.
