Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Veteran's Directed Care Manager, the VDC / Options Counselor provides person-centered counseling services to veterans. This includes assessing needs, coordinating services, developing individualized spending plans, and assisting with financial and employer-related responsibilities. The counselor also collaborates with the Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) and Financial Management Service providers to ensure program compliance and positive outcomes.

Essential Duties & Client Services Responsibilities (50%)
Administrative & Fiscal Responsibilities (50%)
- Conduct initial in-home assessments and ongoing reassessments.
- Develop and monitor individualized spending plans for veterans.
- Assist veterans with employer responsibilities and new hire processes.
- Provide training, support, and remediation as needed.
- Maintain a caseload of at least 80 veterans while ensuring program compliance.
- Perform required check-ins (monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, annual).
- Keep accurate and up-to-date client records in the program database.
- Track expenditures, prepare financial reports, and submit required monthly reports.
- Follow up on referrals and ensure services are implemented for clients.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Gerontology, Community Organization, or related field preferred.
- Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in related work.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and standard office equipment.
- Strong organizational, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Experience collaborating with clients, families, and community agencies.
Physical Requirements
- Periods of sitting, driving and computer work.
- Ability to lift up to 10 lbs.
- Must be able to access and navigate facilities, homes, and agency vehicles.
Special Requirements
- Valid Virginia driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to travel extended distances within and outside of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
