WHAT WE EXPECT OF YOU

SUMMARY
The NHL’s Content Distribution team supports other League departments to identify and manage content distribution-related issues within their lines of business. It sources, analyzes and negotiates content distribution deals, and lends support to NHL groups in distribution matters. It manages and tracks content distribution throughout the League, and works closely with NHL Legal to execute these agreements.
The VP, Content Distribution collaborates with internal NHL teams, including from the Content and Innovation departments, to support group priorities and ensure content distribution ideas align with League obligations and objectives. The ideal candidate will be comfortable evaluating new business opportunities, balancing evolving priorities of multiple constituents, and identifying and managing risk factors, with an eye towards expanding reach and maximizing monetization opportunities from NHL content.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work closely with internal NHL departments to identify content distribution-related obligations installed in existing lines of business across the League.
  • Participate in distribution-related aspects of new business development, including platform evaluation and demand analysis of NHL content.
  • Develop distribution plans and alternative options for NHL animated data visualizations (ADVs), and other data-driven programming in collaboration with the NHL Innovation team, NHL Clubs and League broadcasters.
  • Work closely with internal NHL teams and develop content distribution strategies for the NHL’s YouTube and YouTube Kids channels.
  • Work with the NHL Content Department to manage and evaluate new channel partnership opportunities and provide support with deal preparation and negotiations as needed.
  • Work cross-functionally with other NHL groups to manage and support content distribution obligations and issues in League relationships with outside partners.
  • Collaborate with the content and analytics teams to define relevant metrics to measure the success of NHL content distribution.
  • Remain current on industry trends, competitive landscape and distribution technology and platforms that impact content distribution and consumption.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge Areas/Experience
Required
  • 10+ years of experience in content distribution for a major content distribution platform, MVPD, vMVPD, sports league or media company.
  • Demonstrated passion for, and deep understanding of the sports media landscape and other relevant industry dynamics.
  • Strong track record of executing content distribution strategies across multiple platforms, including TV, digital, social media, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience in market analysis, including content consumption patterns, fan behavior and competitive analysis.
  • Experience working directly with legal teams in reviewing and/or drafting distribution agreements.
Education/Certifications
  • BA/BS in business, media, sports management or relevant field a must.
  • Business or law degree a plus.

SALARY RANGE:
215K - 250K
Actual base pay for a successful candidate will be determined based on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to: experience/training, market demands, and geographic location.
