Job Function

The welding instructor – special projects will have extensive knowledge in welding techniques, safety practices, and industry standards. They will be responsible for teaching students various welding methods, preparing them for certifications, and ensuring they gain the practical skills necessary for a successful career in welding.

Job Responsibilities

  • Teach welding techniques including MIG (GMAW), TIG (GTAW), Stick (SMAW), and Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW).
  • Develop and deliver curriculum in line with industry standards and certification requirements.
  • Conduct both classroom instruction and hands-on training in the welding lab.
  • Evaluate student performance through practical tests, exams, and assignments.
  • Provide constructive feedback to students to help them improve their skills.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and achievements.
  • Ensure a safe learning environment by enforcing safety protocols and guidelines.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections of equipment and facilities.
  • Stay updated on industry safety standards and implement them in the curriculum.
  • Develop and update course materials, lesson plans, and instructional aids.
  • Collaborate with other instructors and industry professionals to ensure the curriculum remains relevant.
  • Oversee the maintenance and proper use of welding equipment and tools.
  • Arrange for the repair or replacement of faulty equipment as needed.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with advancements in welding technology and techniques.
  • Attend industry conferences, workshops, and training sessions.
  • Provide guidance and support to students pursuing welding certifications.
  • Assist students with career planning and job placement within the welding industry.

Education

Associate's degree in the field plus 4 years’ experience OR *Certificate in the field from postsecondary institutions plus 6 years’ experience OR *No postsecondary education (HS or GED required) with 8 years’ experience or more.

Qualifications

Minimum of 5 years of welding experience in a professional setting. Previous teaching or training experience preferred. Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or Certified Welding Educator (CWE) credentials preferred. Relevant welding certifications (e.g., AWS, ASME) are highly desirable
