About the role

We're looking for a practical, detail-minded technician to join our Hobart hardware team on a casual basis. You'll report to our Head of Technology and COO and work alongside our engineers. Your job is to make sure every device that leaves the building is built, tested, documented, packed and recorded properly, and that any device that comes back is investigated properly.

Key responsibilities

  • Order fulfilment: prepare, configure and test sensor nodes, data loggers and accessories against customer orders, including cable looms, junction boxes, solar and battery kits, and mounting hardware
  • Calibration and QA testing: run calibration and functional tests to set procedures and record results against each serial number
  • R&D testing support: run bench and environmental tests on prototypes and new firmware, log the results, and flag anything unusual to the engineering team
  • Returns and warranty investigations: receive returned units, inspect, photograph and document their condition, run fault-finding to separate hardware, firmware, installation and environmental causes, and write clear findings that support customer response
  • Process documentation: write down how work is actually done in the workshop as clear work instructions, checklists, flowcharts and forms, keep these documents up to date and under version control, and help the team use them consistently to support ISO 9001 quality management system
  • Device conversions and rework: reconfigure or repair units to procedure
  • Shipping and dispatch prep: pick, pack and label orders for domestic and international freight, prepare packing lists, serial-number records, labelling and paperwork for delivery
  • Stock control: receive and check incoming supplier deliveries, record stock movements, support stocktakes and inventory reconciliations
  • Workshop: help keep the workshop and stockroom safe, tidy and well organised

About you

  • A trade or tertiary qualification in electronics, electrical, instrumentation or a related field (Cert III/IV, Diploma, or partly through an engineering degree), or equivalent hands-on experience
  • Confident using a soldering iron, multi-meter, bench power supply and oscilloscope
  • Able to read schematics, wiring diagrams and test procedures
  • Familiar with GitHub
  • Organised and accurate with paperwork and data entry
  • Able to write clear, step-by-step instructions that someone else can follow first time
  • A problem-solver who can work independently and explain clearly what you found
  • Experience with cellular IoT devices, firmware flashing, and sensor calibration
