Our client is a leading global telecommunications technology organisation seeking an experienced IP Design Engineer to join its Network Infrastructure team in Sydney. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly skilled network professional to play a critical role in the design, optimisation, and migration of large-scale IP/MPLS networks supporting enterprise, government, and critical infrastructure customers across Australia. As part of the Customer Engineering team, you will work closely with customers, project managers, technical delivery teams, and senior stakeholders to design and deliver complex network solutions.
The successful candidate will bring strong service provider networking expertise, hands-on IP/MPLS experience, and a passion for delivering high-performance, resilient network infrastructure. Due to the nature of the projects supported by this position, applicants must be Australian citizens and either hold, or be eligible to obtain, an Australian Government Baseline or NV1 Security Clearance.
Key Accountabilities
- Lead the design and architecture of large-scale IP/MPLS networks, ensuring scalability, performance, security, and operational resilience.
- Develop and implement network solutions using carrier-grade routing and aggregation platforms.
- Create service designs for Layer 2 and Layer 3 VPN services, internet connectivity, and advanced IP network offerings.
- Plan, coordinate, and execute complex network service migrations while minimising customer impact and service disruption.
- Collaborate with project managers, implementation teams, operations teams, and customers to ensure successful project outcomes.
- Deep understanding of IP networking and service provider technologies.
- Expert knowledge of routing protocols including BGP, OSPF, and IS-IS.
- Strong MPLS experience including: LDP, RSVP-TE, VPLS, VPWS, L3VPN
- Proven experience designing and implementing Quality of Service (QoS) policies and strategies.
- Strong experience designing network services across IP/MPLS infrastructures.
- Demonstrated experience planning and delivering complex network migration projects.
- Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to work effectively within cross-functional project and delivery teams.
- Minimum 4 years' experience in IP network design and engineering within a telecommunications, service provider, critical infrastructure, or large enterprise environment.
- Extensive hands-on experience with carrier-grade routing platforms.
- Experience with Nokia Service Router, Service Aggregation Router, and Interconnect Router platforms will be highly regarded.
- Experience with network management and orchestration platforms is advantageous.
- Network automation and scripting experience using Python, Ansible, or similar technologies is desirable.
- Exposure to Software Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Functions Virtualisation (NFV) concepts is desirable.
- Relevant industry certifications in IP routing, service provider networking, or network engineering are highly regarded.
