Job description

Life @ AP+:

We are one connected team in pursuit of one inspiring purpose - to unite people and technology to power better experiences. Each of us has a part to play in making that happen. You'll be encouraged to bring your ideas forward and make a difference through your work, while still having room for fun, friendships and flexibility in your daily life.

We're driven by our core values: lead with heart, learn for tomorrow and live our legacy. A purpose like ours takes the inspired impact of an incredible team. Ready to change the game? We're ready to help you do it.

The Purpose

As Quality Engineering Manager at AP+, you’ll lead the people, practices and direction that help our teams deliver reliable, high-quality payment experiences. You’ll shape our Quality Engineering strategy, grow the capability of our engineers and stay close to delivery, providing hands-on support where it helps teams move forward. You’ll champion quality across the product lifecycle, including the thoughtful use of automation and AI-enabled engineering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of Quality Engineers, building a collaborative, accountable culture and strengthening capability across the Quality Engineering cohort.
  • Set and drive AP+’s Quality Engineering strategy, aligning testing approaches and technical decisions with product objectives and business priorities.
  • Oversee the design, execution and analysis of testing across levels and types. Review requirements and specifications to shape test coverage, prioritise risk and ensure results are clear to delivery teams.
  • Advance test automation and the use of AI-enabled coding, refactoring and test practices to improve delivery speed and coverage while maintaining software quality.
  • Partner with engineering, product and operations teams to embed functional, non-functional and security quality practices throughout the delivery lifecycle and support continuous delivery.
  • Evaluate and improve testing tools, frameworks and ways of working. Stay hands-on to support test execution across teams, and represent Quality Engineering with AP+ stakeholders, customers and vendors.

The capabilities needed to be successful in this role are:

  • Qualifications & Experience: Up to 10+ years’ experience as a Senior or Lead Quality Engineer, or in an equivalent role. A bachelor’s degree in engineering is preferred, or an alternative pathway into engineering. Payments or financial technology experience is an advantage, but not essential.
  • People Leadership: A track record of leading, coaching and developing technical teams, allocating work effectively and building individual and team capability.
  • Quality Engineering Delivery: Demonstrated end-to-end delivery experience in an agile organisation, with the confidence to provide hands-on testing support and technical guidance to engineers and squads.
  • Testing Strategy & Practice: Experience shaping testing strategies and leading functional, process, acceptance and non-functional testing, using risk-based approaches that reflect real operating conditions and business needs.
  • Automation, AI & Tools: Experience improving testing through automation and selecting effective methods, tools and frameworks. You can lead the use of agentic AI tools to improve productivity through effective prompting while maintaining code quality.
  • Stakeholder Partnership: The ability to work across engineering, product and operations, communicate quality risks and outcomes clearly, resolve delivery challenges and represent Quality Engineering to internal and external stakeholders.
