About the Opportunity

As the Software Engineer for Austal Defence Australia (ADA), you'll be responsible for providing technical support to design, build, test, deploy and upkeep SSA Integration Data Environment (IDE) application software and SSA integration software providing capabilities supporting the broader SSA digital services including asset creation, management, delivery and data transport to the customer. The role is responsible for SDLC tasks in at least two of the following areas: SSA Integration, IDE Applications, IDE Enhanced IAM orchestration, and support to IDE Cyber Security enhancements. The Software Engineer works with the greater ADA Digital Services team and works under the technical leadership of the ADA Sr. Cloud Engineer.

What's Involved

  • Provide technical software engineering expertise and support to ADA software engineering activities and projects
  • Manage and support IDE Azure-native and Azure deployed software and configurations providing Applications Services to ADA, its customers and suppliers, ensuring high-availability of software delivered capabilities.
  • Maintain and support the ADA application architecture, capability documentation and software technology roadmap.
  • Implement and maintain the complete ADA software portfolio, version-controlled and managed.
  • Support ADA planning and risk management for the overall IDE program of work.
  • Leverage AI to accelerate software service designs, integrating cyber security functionality to enhance the overall cybersec posture of the IDE, SSA program and ADA.
  • Design and optimise CI/CD pipelines to support DevSecOps agile software deployments with automated QA and testing
  • Lead Software Engineering team collaboration with other Digital Service teams, ADA functional teams, and Austal ICT teams to facilitate best fit-for-purpose solutions.

You'll Need

Essential

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science/software engineering/systems engineering or equivalent certifications or at least 5 years of equivalent software engineering experience.
  • At least 2 Years of experience in SDLC fundamentals, software development using Agile and DevOps methodologies, code management and deployments using git version control, DevOps and CICD pipes, building for and deploying to Cloud.
  • At least 2 Years of experience developing and maintaining object-oriented and functional code, cloud-native applications, building server-side applications, building APIs, and demonstratable expertise with dotnet and python (and other common "industry standard") coding languages.
  • At least 2 Years of experience implementing fundamental datatypes, data structures software patterns using databases.
  • Experience developing and maintaining functional and technical requirements and specifications.
  • Experience developing and executing test plans and scripts, managing defect resolution, and maintaining traceability.
  • Eligibility for a Defence Security Clearance

Desirable

  • Additional studies or demonstratable experiences in AI technologies, methodologies, adoption and implementation.
  • Experience working on integrated teams to design, development, test and deploy software.
  • Experience with Australian Defence or other Information Security culture organisation.
