Overview

As a SQL Server Database Administrator, you will support the daily operation, monitoring, maintenance, and troubleshooting of database environments. Accountabilities
- Database Operations: Execute routine SQL Server administration tasks, including database backups and restores, in accordance with established procedures.
- Monitoring and Alert Management: Monitor SQL Server jobs, alerts, logs, and events to identify operational issues and maintain database availability.
- Database Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance activities, including index rebuilds and reorganizations, as well as statistics updates.
- Performance Monitoring: Track CPU and memory usage, disk consumption, and database growth to identify potential capacity or performance concerns.
- SQL Scripting: Execute basic T-SQL scripts and assist with simple query adjustments, including the use of joins, filters, and common functions.
- Change Management: Support the validation and execution of low-impact database change scripts, following version control procedures and established change management practices.
- Incident Identification and Escalation: Identify and report issues such as database blocking, failed jobs, disk space shortages, and service unavailability, escalating complex incidents to mid-level and senior team members when necessary.
- Development Team Support: Assist development teams with the execution of database scripts and simple queries, ensuring compliance with operational standards.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate documentation of database procedures, recurring activities, incidents, and operational processes.
- Security and Auditing: Support database security and audit activities by applying access permissions in accordance with established standards.
- Continuous Improvement: Develop technical knowledge in performance tuning, automation, troubleshooting, and cloud-based database operations.
Requirements
- Education (Mandatory): Currently pursuing a higher education degree in Information Technology or a related IT field; alternatively, a completed higher education degree in any field accompanied by a postgraduate certificate in Information Technology, such as a specialization, master's, or doctoral qualification, with a minimum workload of 360 hours.
- SQL Server Fundamentals: Basic knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server and its core database administration concepts.
- T-SQL Knowledge: Familiarity with basic T-SQL queries, including joins, filters, and standard functions.
- Database Maintenance: Introductory understanding of indexes, statistics, and database recovery models.
- Operational Procedures: Ability to follow technical instructions, execute established routines, and document activities accurately.
- Problem-Solving: Willingness to learn troubleshooting techniques, performance tuning, and database automation.
- Attention to Detail: Strong organizational skills and the ability to identify inconsistencies, monitor alerts, and follow operational processes carefully.
- Teamwork and Communication: Ability to collaborate with development teams and more experienced database administrators, communicate issues clearly, and escalate problems when appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with database monitoring tools such as Grafana or Azure Monitor.
- Basic knowledge of Dynamic Management Views (DMVs) and database performance analysis.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Azure and cloud-based database environments.
- Introductory knowledge of Git, version control, and basic deployment pipelines.
- Interest in expanding technical expertise in SQL Server administration, database security, automation, and performance optimization.
